Israel Threatens PLO Terrorists TEL AVIV (JTA) — De- fense Minister Ariel Sharon said Monday the Palesti- nian terrorists should not be misled by the great measure of self-restraint shown by Israel in the face of terrorist shelling of northern vil- lages and towns. Sharon warned the Pales- tinians that Israel regarded the cease-fire as applying to all and every terrorist at- tack against Israel, Israeli- controlled territories or Is- raeli or Jewish organiza- tions and installations throughout the world. Is- rael reserved the right to react to any such attack anywhere, he said. Premie'r Menahem Begin, who has declared the cease- fire across the Lebanese border to be null and void, told his Cabinet on Sunday that it was not Israel but the Palestinian terrorists who ended it. He said the Palestine Liberation Organization viewed the cease-fire as an invitation to attack Jews from any quarter except from southern Lebanon. Israel, he said, would not agree by any means to this "arbitrary and distorting" interpre- tation. Begin praised Chief of Staff Gen. Rafael Eitan for his remarks in radio and press interviews over the weekend suggesting that if Israel responds to PLO at- tacks, it should be with the massive use of force. Ac- cording to Begin, it was Eitan's duty to explain the real situation to the Israeli people. Eitan and Begin came under fire from the opposi- tion Labor party over what the latter claimed to be "war talk." Labor members of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Security Committee clashed with Begin last Thursday when the premier declared that the cease-fire was null and void and warned that the PLO would not be allowed to shed Jewish blood with impun- ity. Labor spokesmen also ac- cused Eitan of contributing to war fever by discussing military plans in public. The Laborites were aroused by Eitan's disclosure that Israel has been massing troops along the Lebanese border and his insistence that the Israeli response to Avner Describes Consensus NEW YORK — Israel's opposition parties fully support the Begin govern- ment's refusal to return to the 1967 borders and to permit establishment of an independent Palestinian state, according to a top Is- raeli official. Yehuda Avner, an ad- viser to Prime Minister Menahem Begin, said these are two of four points which form "the cement which binds our people in a na- tional consensus, irrespec- tive of party affiliation." The other two he cited are refusal to negotiate with the terrorist Palestine Libera- tion Organization and a re- solve to keep Jerusalem united as Israel's national capital. - Avner, who was also an adviser to former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, made his comments during a meeting last week of the NAUTILUS The finest in modern exercise equipment has arrived. They also wanted to know why Begin is rais- ing the issue of the PLO interpretation of the cease-fire at this time when, as former Premier Yitzhak Rabin observed at the Knesset committee meeting, the differences of interpretation were known all along. Begin retorted that them new element is that th). PLO is acting according to its interpretation. HRMIITON PLACE ATHLETIC CLUB 30333 Southfield Rd. (between 12 & 13 Mile Rds.) Since the beginning of the year the index has risen by 33 percent. If the rate con- tinues at its present figure, inflation this year will reach 136 percent, the high- est ever and far higher than the two figure inflation forecast by Finance Minis- ter Yoram Aridor. The Cen- tral Bureau of Statistics said the sharp April rise was due to a 100 percent in- crease in municipal taxes and steep hikes in prices of fruit and vegetables and . clothing and footwear. a FREE GIFT WRAPPING Tappt:jes 26400 West Twelve Mile Road in Southfield's Racquetime Mall No, theas1 corner of 12 M"e 8 Normweslern 357.5578 Hwy MON.-SAT . 10 00-5 45 THURSDAYS 10:00-8:45 I -4
