THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS r Activities in Society The Bodzin Family Club will meet 8 p.m. Sun- day in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mendel Seligson, 15041 Northfield, Oak Park. * * * Rabbi David A. Nelson of Cong. Beth Shalom and Rabbi Efry Spectre of Adat Shalom Synagogue were in Washington, D.C., this week to attend a brief- ing and planning meeting of the National Rabbinic Cabinet of Israel Bonds. Dear Editor: In the May 7th edition of The Jewish News, there was an ad placed by Mr. Swarin of Singer's Kosher Meat Market. I was astounded to see the audacity of this butcher to set himself up to rule on Halacha questions and to render opinions that are the opposite of the Rabbi's rulings. He asked the public to express themselves. Halacha is not decided by public opinion. It is the result of intense study and understanding of Torah by people who themselves observe it. To ask Rabbis of Temples for those who do not keep kosher themseves is a farce. The Jewish News by writing up a whole story has given undue publicity and undeserved credibility to the opinions of Mr. Swarin and this should be stopped.
