Pious and Sol Lachman will address the Jabotinsky Society of Herut at its celebration of Israel's 34th anniversary 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Jimmy Prentis Morris Branch of the Jewish Com- munity Center. Dr. Pious joined Aliya Bet in 1948 and served as the medical officer for the Pal- mach training camp. He was an army doctor in Israel holding various posts, and in 1956, following the Sinai Campaign, he created and organized the American Physicians Fellowship Emergency Medical Teams, on whose national board he serves. He established the chest unit at Rothschild Hospital in Haifa and lectures on surgery at Hebrew Univer- sity and Tel Aviv Univer- sity Medical Schools. He is past president of the Michigan Chapter, American College of Chest Physicians, and The Jewish Vocational Service and Community Workshop is offering a dis- placed homemaker program for women in Wayne and Oakland counties. The program offers em- ployability skills, voca- tional counseling and job placement services. Eligi- bility for the program is based on marital and em- ployment status and age of children. There are no in- come guidelines. The program has been made available with the aid of a grant from the Michi- gan Department of Labor, Office of Women and Work. Many biblical passages refer to lions and tigers roaming ancient Israel. Lachman was graduated from Michigan State Uni- versity, where he majored in radio and TV production, and from Bowling Green State University, where he earned an MFA degree in creative writing. He is the author of a book of poetry, "We Have Been Such Birds." Lachman is the past president of the Detroit Zionist Federation, on the board of the Detroit District — Zionist Organization of America, a national board member of the American Zionist Federa- tion and a member of the Jabotinsky Society.
