28 Friday, May 14, 1982 1 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Art Exhibited in Southfield Danny Raskin's LISTENING POST 14. golfer receives a "Jewish Open" cap and windbreaker . . . In articles and hooks about Alex Karras, actor and former Detroit Lions football star, the authors refer to him always wearing his "Jewish Open" cap around the house. The name "Jewish Open" was started by non-Jewish participants at early out- ings . . . and the name has stuck. It is interesting to note that over the 25 previous years' history of the Bale Post Golf Outing, statis- tics show 65 percent of all the people attending were not Jewish . . . Bale Post has always felt that this event has been in- strumental in disseminat- ing goodwill between the Jewish and non-Jewish communities . . . an aura of comradeship and friendship, which can be greatly achieved on a golf course . . . or some other field of athletic endeavor. There's still room . . . call Mary Weinstein . . . business, 491-0550 . . . or home, 683-2929. Detroit folks who flew in for the visit were . . . Mickie Ambrose, Sid and Bertha Gold, Dina Gold, Jodi Gorman (sister), Sam Gorman (uncle), Les- ter, Gertrude and Marsha Yollick (aunt, uncle and cousin) and Rose Harris (grandmother). "Former Detroiters from Los Angeles were . . . Joan Felsot, Sylvia Bellemy and Dr. Lionel and Perry Katchem. Dinner was at Frontier Hotel, where Pat is hostess at the buffet. It was a - fabulous reunion of friendship and family and we talked about Detroit, Central High and Dexter." HE WAS HER first and only blind date . . . She was 15 years old . . . he 17 years old . . . Four years later, Ted Pines and Lenore Gray planned a June wedding. But all was not as 200 in- vited guests had hoped . . . with visions of beautiful Lenore in the handmade wedding gown she never got to wear. Ted was stationed in Florida with the Army Air Corps . . . and Lenore went to be with him on his 21st birthday . . . May 17, 1942, in the Miami Beach study of Rabbi Zwitman, with his wife as witness, they were married in an elopement . . . and lived in Miami Beach for two years . . . Ted then went to war in Europe and Lenore re- turned to Detroit . . . He came home in 1945 and they've resided here ever since, raising a family of three boys. The love story continues . . . as Ted and Lenore will celebrate their 40th an- niversary tomorrow . . . with a party given for them at Little Harry's by son Les and Annette Pines and son Lee and Andrea Pines. AFTER FIVE WEEKS of hospitals, traction, pinched nerves, etc., Shirlee Iden is back at her own Southfield Eccentric desk . . . "As much as I'd like to thank each and every one of the multitude of nice folk who called, wrote, sent flowers and cards and ex- pressed their sympathy with my painful plight," says Shirlee, "I'm afraid if I tried I'd knock my left arm out of commission again (that's affected by the pinched netve). Their good wishes and the chicken soup and pillows my mom fol- lowed me around with have made a difference. I'm gonna give the world a try — and I love them all." 15th ANNUAL Games Nite by Mr. and Mrs. Group, City of Hope, is June 15 at Roma's of Bloomfield on Telegraph . . .
