Weinberger Says
Saudis Seeking
More Than Arms

WASHINGTON — Saudi
Arabia sees its relationship
with the United States as
more than a series of deals
involving arms for cash, ac-
cording to Defense Secre-
tary Caspar Weinberger.
Weinberger's comments
about the reliability of a
U.S.-Saudi alliance to deter
Soviet aggression were
made at a Pentagon briefing
to the Leadership Confer-
ence of the World Assembly
of Jewish War Veterans last
month.
Weinberger refuted the
charge made by Robert M.
Zweiman, JWV national
commander, that the Saudis
publicly call Israel their
principal enemy and that
they do not see any threats
from Russia.
