He was a guest here Sunday eve- ning at the annual Israel Bonds dinner sponsored by Einstein Lodge and Chapter of Bnai Brith, held at Adat Shalom Synagogue. The 170 in attendance were inspired by him to renew their devotion to Israel, with purchases of more than $670,000 in Is- rael Bonds. It was the deeply-moving effect of his presence that si- lently reminded the gathered, most of them also' survivors from the Nazi ter- rors, of the little boy's back- ground. But he did not speak of it. The Nussbaum address was filled with facts regard- ing Israel's accom- plishments and the needs which impel action and American Jewry's partici- pation in all efforts inbehalf of the Jewish state. Henry Dorfman, as toastmaster, engineered a successful evening in Is- rael's behalf, with his own generous participation and the encouragement he eli- cited for Israel Bonds activi- ties. The evening was planned in honor of Thelma Isaacs and Sig- munt_Rubin, who were presented with the Israel Lion of Judah and New Life awards, respec- tively. The presentations were made by Shragai Cohen of New York, national' Israel Bonds executive director of congregational and organ- izational planning activi- ties. Program participants in- cluded Norman Allan and several active leaders in the Shaarit Haplaytah organ- ization of survivors. Of special interest is the continuing participation in the Einstein function of Eric Rosenow, also a survivor from Nazism and an active participant in the survivors' functions in the past qliarter-Lcentury. He ap- peared at Sunday's event with his orchestra, reviving interest in ghetto and othei- musical selections. Mrs. Weiner was chair- man of Project Outreach, convener of the Women's Plea for Soviet Jewry, chairman of the publicity sub-committee for the De- troit Committee for Soviet Jewry, a Volunteer for the Russian Acculturation Committee, and is a member of Cong. Shaarey Zedek Sisterhood, the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children and vice president and bulletin editor of the Tzedakah Chapter for Working Women. Chapters and units re- ceiving awards were: De- troit Chapter and Account- ants Unit, best community service project; Zeiger, Morgenthau, Tzedakah and Galilee, ongoing and com- prehensive community service; and Galilee, pro- gramming. Huntington Woods, Golda Meir and Tzedakah Chapters also won programming awards. Honored for most net gain in member- ship were Zeiger and De- troit Chapters. Zeiger re- ceived an award for best single meeting for mem- bership. Marshall Chapter was cited for its "Mama Loves Littman's" presentation and the Flint Chapter for its participation in the com- munity.
