The Best of Everything
EACH VISIT to Mario's
on Second Blvd. seems to
bring a new adventure . . . I
know you can't eat atmos-
phere . . . and the food at
Mario's is superb enough in
itself . . . but one couldn't
help noticing the new look
walls . . . Tastefully delight-
ful framed art paintings,
some with lights, now adorn
the heretofore barren wood
paneling . . . the very pleas-
ant selections from Du-
Mouchelle Art Gallery
blend in with graciousness.
Why can't I find any fault
now at Mario's? . . . Surely
there must be at least one
. .. No restaurant is perfect,
however great it may be .. .
This isn't only true with me
. . . So many others say the
same thing . . . and three in
our party, wife Frieda, and
Sid and Marilyn Frumkin,
helped look but to no avail.
I very rarely look for
faults . . . it's the good
things that are more impor-
tant to me . . . but Mario's
now seems like a challenge.
You won't find too
many better than our
waiter, Achilla Bianchi
... Everything he does is
with experienced finesse
. . . He is proud of his
Caesar salad . . . and very
justly so ... Achilla's tab-
leside preparation is
without flair ... just
bottom-line goodness.
The minestrone soup has
improved immensely . . . So
much so that not one person
in our party could ever
again say it is too tomatoey,
as was the case before
Frank Passalacqua pur-
chased the place in October
1980 from Mario Lelli .. .
and upgraded even more
what had always been a fine
restaurant.
There is hardly any better
spaghetti with butter and
fresh parsley . . . or the very
tasty garlic and cheese
bread . . . Achilla suggested
a dish not on the menu .. .
and it was a very wise deci-
sion on our parts to agree
having his choice.
Veal Alitalia is a
delicately-delicious entree
that truly exemplifies class
dining at Mario's.
Yes, this time I really
looked hard to find a fault at
Mario's . . . and failed .. .
Achilla didn't know, but he
didn't help me at the one
thing I was counting on .. .
by bringing my coffee in
fresh cups.
Marilyn holds to her
diet ... except when she
goes to Mario's ... And
who could fault her for a
teensy-weensy extra little
cheating ... having the
Tropicale
Banana
amaretto,
(bananas,
sweet butter, dark sugar,
rum brandy, flamed over
ice cream) ... It was sin-
fully delicious and surely .
Marilyn can be excused
since she was obviously
"out of this world."
A person at the table next
to ours might have summed
it up best when he said, "If I
had my choice of where to
have my last meal, it would
be right here at Mario's."
IT'S GOING TO LOOK
great up there . . . Nancy
Gurwin in "I Do, I Do" . . . on
the Telegraph Road mar-
quee in front of Ramada Inn
. . . A lot of people will be so
very happy to see Nancy's
name there in all the glory
that this wonderful
entertainer and person has
achieved through the years.
She opens dinner-theater
in Ramada Inn on June 24
. . . and thereafter every
Friday evening . . . in a
truly class arrangement .. .
No buffet . . . Complete sit-
down dining.
The deal fell through with_ _
Michigan Inn . . . who;
new owners (Servico) antes
its corporate lawyers will
surely discover a truly great
loss in not nabbing Nancy
when they had the chance.
Ramada Inn General
Manager Mike Kralovec
and the people at his
Southfield operation can
breathe with happy ex-
citement ... Nancy Gur-
win is the best female
personality in local
dinner theater today.
Some advice to folks . . .
small and large groups .. .
start making your reserva-
tions now . . . June 24 and
then every Friday could be
immediate sellouts . . .
People have waited a long
time for Nancy to come to
the Northwest . . . and now
that she is here . . . the rush
for tickets won't be long in
coming.
IN ANSWER TO so
many inquiries ... Sil-
verman•s Restaurant in the
Delta-Dental Bldg. on J.L.
Hudson Drive . . . with its
47 different omelettes and
all-you-can-eat specials .. .
is a seven-day-operation .. .
Saturday and Sunday hours
are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
FROM ONE EX-
TREME to another . . .
Rose Lieberman, who
worked so strenuously
against unsurmounting
odds to open Rosebud's disco
nitery a short while back .. .
is devoting her energies as a
special agent for American
United Life . Insurance,
based with the A.L. Fine
Agency in Southfield.
Rose is one of only two
female agents in the coun-
try to qualify for the corn-
, pany's Leaders Club .. .
Award will be presented
May 16 in Nashville, Tenn.
She is also the immediate
past president of the Oak-
land District of the Michi-
gan Conference of Small
Businesses . . . receiving a
special award for her efforts
by Gov. William G. Milli-
ken.
ONE OF THE TOP
entertainers of our locale,
Paul Locrichio, has brought
his quartet . . . and wonder-
ful musical impressions .. .
to the Stephenson Club, N.
Chrysler Drive . . . Tuesday
through Saturday . . . The
group plays music for danc-
ing . . . and Paul comes on to
do two shows, 9:30. and
11:30 p.m.
SHE CALLS HER-
SELF the "One-Handed
Enamalist" . . . Rose
