In his response, Dr. Goldstein cited his Zionist credo, stating: "I believe that every Zionist in the Diaspora, in order to deserve the name Zionist, should make aliya part of his life plan. "I believe that Zionism is an unconditional commitment to Israel, whatever may be the re- gime and whatever may be its mistakes. ISRAEL GOLDSTEIN "I believe in the right of Jews abroad to be critical of the positions of Israel's gov- ernment, but preferably not through the public media. "Since I am an Israeli, I would like to address myself for a few minutes to my fel- low Israelis. "Much has been spoken and written about the de- cline in the quality of life of many Israelis. The details it is not necessary to spell out. "In considerable de- gree, no doubt, it is the re- flection of the deteriora- tion in the quality of life in the world, against which no effective block- ade is available. But partly it is the result of special circumstances - indigenous to Israel it- self. "Life in Israel is not easy. In some measure, condi- tions of juvenile delin- quency and crime may be the result of inadequate ab- sorption facilities which were provided for the mass immigration which poured into Israel's wide open gates in the first years following the establishment of the Medina. "It will take a generation of persistent, purposeful education of the youth to undo the ills resulting from a generation of less than adequate physical and so- cial conditions for large segments of our popula- tion." Dr. Goldstein had the most important positions in Israeli, Jewish and Zionist ranks. He was chairman of the Keren Hayesod since making aliya to Israel 20 years ago. He was president of the Zionist Organization of America, president of the Jewish National Fund of America and was the or- ganizer and head of the Jewish Conciliation Court, whose activities he described in his latest book, "Jewish Justice and Conciliation." He is rabbi emeritus of Cong. Bnai Jeshurun, one of the oldest in the United States. Israeli Prof Joins Academy WASHINGTON (JTA) — Shmuel Eisenstadt, profes- sor of sociology at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and visiting professor at Harvard University, has been selected as a foreign associate of the National Academy of Sciences. Israel Seeking to Export More Food to U.S. JERUSALEM (JTA) — The problem of increasing Israel's food exports to the United States, which pre- sently account for less than seven percent of Israel's food exports, was discussed with a group of 28 national food distributors from the U.S. at a seminar here. The visiting executives, on an Israel Bonds mission, were told that the American market is the key to the health of Israel's food export industry. Binyamin Toren, director of the food division of the Ministry of Commerce, said exports to the U.S. cur- rently amount to $350 mil- lion a year. But two-thirds of Israel's processed food ex- ports go to Europe, with Britain taking one-third of the total. With the entry of Greece into the European Economic Community (EEC) and the imminent entry of Spain and Portugal, Israel's food exports to Europe will face severe competition, Toren said. German Hails Ghetto Revolt BONN (JTA) — Mayor Richard Von .Weizaecker of West Berlin hailed the Warsaw Ghetto uprising of April 1943 as a courageous struggle against brutal dic- tatorship. He said it was an outstanding symbolic ac- tion that will live in history. The mayor spoke Tuesday at a memorial event or- ganized by the West Berlin Jewish community to mark the 39th anniversary of the city's commitment to their security and well-being. Melman said, "all but the largest corporations avoid it. Our new tool — based on a simplification of the de- sign and analysis of models — will make it easier and cheaper to avoid these seri- ous mistakes." The new software for constructing models, known as DISS (Distrib- uted System Simulator), is an outgrowth of over two decades of experi- ence gathered in model- ing and in the design and development of the Insti- tute's own Golem com- puters. DISS is a generalized- - modular system that can be used, for example, to predict which of several computer configurations will best serve the needs of a specific customer, to determine how large sales organizations with branch offices and manufacturing plants can be made more efficient or to design major national and international communica- tions centers. Its particular strength is that it allows for modeling and simulation of large geographically dis- persed but interdependent systems with semiautonomous units that take independent actions.
