The day school, part of the Solomon Schechter school system under Conservative auspices, was founded in 1958 in the United Hebrew Schools building in Detroit. The late Rabbi Jacob Segal of Adat Shalom Synagogue spearheaded the drive for the school. In 1960, as enrollment grew, the school used facilities at Cong. Bnai Moshe and in 1967, the school saw its first graduating class. Hillel Day School moved into its present quarters in Farmington Hills in 1970.
