NEW YORK (JTA) —
Austria's Interior Minister
has told the World Jewish
Congress (WJC) that the
Palestinian terrorists being
held for the attack on Vien-
na's main synagogue last
August have admitted
under interrogation that
the transit camp for Soviet
Jewish emigrants in Vie-
nna was originally an in-
tended target.
Minister Erwin Lane,
who oversees. Austria's in-
ternational security and
police forces, met with lead-
ership of the WJC American
section last week. The talks
focused on a wide range of
issues of mutual concern re-
lating to the Soviet Jewry
question, international ter-
rorism, and Austrian
foreign policy.
Lane reported on inten-
sified measures being taken
by the Austrian authorities
to insure the security of the
transit camp of Soviet
Jewish emigrants in Vie-
nna. He noted in this con-
nection that prior to the at-
tack on. the Vienna
synagogue, the Palestinian

NEW YORK — The
Shteinshleifer Testing
Bureau of the Jewish Edu-
cation Service of North
America, Inc. has an-
nounced that next week has
been designated
"Continent-Wide Testing
Week for Jewish Day
Schools" and that the week
of May 17 is "Continent-
Wide' Testing Week for
Jewish Afternoon Schools."
Some 8,300 students
across North America will
be tested during the two
weeks.

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Jewish National Fund
(JNF) development projects
in the 1982•1983 budgetary
year will total 3.2 billion
Shekels ($16 million), the
JNF announced. ' .
The budget is 173 percent
higher than last year's,
much in excess of the infla-
tion rise. The JNF's land
development department
alone will account for 1.2
billion Shekels ($6 million)
of the total sum. Its plans
include: Infrastructure
work for 12 new settlement
areas and expansion of
existing settlement infras-
tructure; infrastructure
work for Nahal outposts;
and reclamation of more
than .30,000 dunams (7,500
acres) of land for agricul-
tural use.

NEW YORK (ZINS) —
Economists of the Chase
Manhattan Bank predict
that the OPEC nations will
have a $15 billion deficit
this year, compared to a $60
billion surplus in 1981.
The bank predicts the de-
ficit will force interest rates
in the U.S. to remain high
longer than was expected.
