We are the descendants of those who founded Congregation Shaarey Zedek so long ago. Their hope, their spirit, their purpose endure in us. And we pledge to pass on the same Jewish Tradition of faith and service to our own children. Though our Congregation has grown: though our Sanctuary has been moved, our commitment has not changed. Over the next 10 days we culminate our celebration of the 120th Anniversary of our founding. From May 6 to May 13, an extensive Historical Exhibit of our history and American Jewish history will be on display in the West Hall of our Synagogue, to which the entire community is invited. The history of the C6ngregation, "Congregation Shaarey Zedek: 1861-1981," written by Eli Grad and Betty Roth and published by Wayne State University Press, will soon be available for purchase. On Saturday, May 8, 1982, Rabbi Irwin Groner will be recognized for his 25 years in the Rabbinate and 15 years as spiritual leader of Congregation Shaarey Zedek at Sabbath - Services and a tribute luncheon. Rabbi Wolfe Kelman, Executive Vice-President of the Rabbinical Assembly, will deliver the sermon, and will present an Honorary Doctorate to Rabbi Groner from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. On Sunday evening, May 9, our congregational family will gather together for a special program of celebration for members and their families. Reminiscence and history, song and pageantry, prayer and hope will intermingle as we remember our past with joy and reaffirm our dedication to the future. We express our gratitude to the Almighty who has kept us in life, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this time of fulfillment.
