cording to Mrs. Helen She-
vin, president of the JFS
board.
Samuel Lerner, executive
director of JFS, said the
agency has been accredited
for the following services:
family counseling services,
services for children in their
own homes, services for
unmarried or adolescent
parents, foster, family serv-
ice and for children, adop-
tion service and mental
health services.
Lerner said that ac-
creditation assures the
continuation of the qual-
ity of service which JFS
has rendered since it was
founded in 1925. He
stated that a staff of ex-
perienced clinical social
workers provides treat-
ment to individuals of all
ages. Fees are charged
according to a sliding
scale, based on clients'
income.
Since the agency is re-
gognized as a mental health
clinic there is reimburse-
ment by Blue Cross and
other insurance companies
where appropriate coverage
exists.
In 1981, 4,305 cases were
served by JFS. Of these,
1,276 were cases involving a
variety of services to the ag-
ing.
The Council on Accredi-
tation approved JFS foster
family services for children.
JFS is also engaged in a
group project with the
National Council of
Jewish Women, Greater
Detroit Section, in a
Meals-on-Wheels project
where food is delivered to
aged and disabled per-
sons in their own homes
five-days-a-week. The
agency is also engaged in
a special project of group
residences for the elderly
in which groups of three
adults live together in an
apartment, with the as-
sistance of caseworkers
and homemaker staff.
Currently the agency op-
erates four such apart-
ments.
JFS is funded by the
United Foundation and
Jewish Welfare Federation,
as well as from fees from
counseling services.
