THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, April 23, 1982 29 STYLE Danny Raskin's The Best of Everything OVER 1,000 PEOPLE were present as the South- ern California Motion Pic- ture Council held its recent Celebrity Awards Lunch- eon. Turk Prujan (Prujanski) was among the star-studded so lineup at the gala affair .. presented with a Bronze Halo award for his work in the entertainment indus- try. Former Detroiter Her- an "Turk" Prujanski fined Will Ahern, Lew _.-1111 yres, John Agar, Julie Adams, Robert Cummings, Sammy Davis, Rhonda Fleming, Lorhe Green, Huntz Hall, Sterling Hol- loway, Harvey Korman, Henry Mancini, Barbara MacNair, Burgess Meredith, Craig Stevens, Rod Steiger, Alexis Smith, Jane Wyman and others in receiving bronze, golden or silver awards. Turk's award was given as an actor ... al- though his accom- plishments have been greater as a song writer, singer and master of ceremonies-host. Carl Steger at Jakks Res- taurant and Lounge on Greenfield and 10 Mile is among those who still play some of Turk's hits .. . Carl's rendition of "I Love You, I Love You" is second only to Turk himself . . . and "Don't Cry On My Shoul- der" by Carl is second just to the late Sam Cooke. BILLY ROSE QUAR- TET opens May 4 at Ex- calibur, Northwestern and Franklin- at 12 Mile. AIRWAVE, featuring Terry Dee, opens in Dewey's at Michigan Inn this Mon- day through May 8. _ A DELIGHTFUL very- light comedy with witty re- pertoire and excellent act- ing by a well-seasoned cast . . . This is Bernard Slade's "Romantic • Comedy" play- ing at the Birmingham Theater. Noel Harrison and Carol Lynley in the leads, bring- ing oodles of acting credits, are classic examples of stage presence with realis- tic presentation . . . Carol Bruce, who is seen currently as "Momma Carlson" on the CBS-TV series, "WKRP In Cincinnati," is also an es- tablished stage, screen and television performer. The show is fast-moving in an easy-like pace ... as playwright Slade brings wit, intelligence and ro- mance to his story about two dramatists who collaborate on everything except their emotions. An interesting aside is the method of set chang- ing for "Romantic Com- edy" at Birmingham Theater ... The lights are up and audiences are permitted to see how it is done ... There are no curtains and the stage lights are completely out only for imagination se- quences when Phoebe and Jason (Carol and Noel) are supposedly typ- ing or working on a script. You may have seen Carol in "Harlow," "The Cardi- nal," "The Poseidon Adven- ture," "Night Stalker," and various episodes of "Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Charlie's Angels" and "Hart to Hart." Actor-director-singer Noel Harrison is the son of Rex Harrison and brings a wealth of experience to the Birmingham Theater stage . . . going back to his Ameri- can debut in 1966 when he starred with Stephanie Powers in "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E." television series . . . He has had sev- eral hit records . . . and ap- peared on almost every TV dramatic, variety and talk program. ALFRED TAUBMAN, shopping center developer, has sold the A & W chain, according to April 12 issue of Nation's Restaurant News. ABE GREENE ASKS . if Sero's Restaurant on N. Woodward near 12 Mile is under new ownership? No, owner George Bricolas just has a partner now .. . Menelaos Haralambos Vas- ilakis . . . who customers call "Lucky" because they can't pronounce his first name . Actually, though, Menelaos means lucky in Greek. "CHAPTER TWO" by Neil Simon (really an auto- biography of part of his life) opened to run through May 16 at Meadow Brook Thea- ter on the campus of Oak- land University near Rochester . . . The play runs Tuesdays through Satur- days. ORGANIZATIONS CALLING to ask how they can get in touch with Nancy - Gurwin for either her great one-woman show . . . or other excellent perform- ances . . . here's how to reach her . . . 354-0545. BIRTHDAY CON- GRATS . to Karen Arney . . . personable waitress at Starlite Coney Island, Southfield and 10 Mile. HERMAN "HY" PRITZ, who does a lot of comedy and pantomime for nursing homes and Bnai Brith Women, will do his clever bits next Wednesday for Pinsker Society . . . (P.S. aside to Hy . . . Our Jewish News column headings you sent our way from 1946 and 1947, showing what I looked like, reminded me to search the house over for a collar pin . . . They're back in style.) AN ALL-ISRAELI evening . . . foods, snacks, arts and crafts and entertainment by the Galai Ha-Ruach Dance Group .. . will be much of Israel Inde- pendence Day celebration 5 p.m. Sunday at Cong.
