Mrs. Saul (Marjorie) Saulson, the honoree's daughter-in-law, who, with her husband and William Saulson, Fannie Saulson's sons, sponsored the function at Jacques', was toastmis- tress at the informal pro- gram during which rela- tives and friends recalled the Wetsman-Saulson-Da- vidson role in this state. Pioneers in Cong. Shaarey Zedek — two members of the family having served as the synagogue's presidents — and holding important roles in the state, includ- ing northern Michigan mayoralties, the family was described as having an indelible record in Zionism. Joseph Wetsman, the father of Fannie the nonagenarian, was among the earliest Zionists here. With David W. Simons, who was a member of the first Detroit nine-man City Council, who also was a Shaarey Zedek president, he donated the land on Mount Scopus on which the Hadassah Hospital was originally built. In the recollections of the services rendered to Zionism by Fannie Wetsman Saulson and her sister, Sally Davidson, her senior by two years, it was recalled that the Detroit Chapter of Hadassah actu- ally was established in the Wetsman home when the movement's founder, Hen- rietta Szold, was a guest at their home. There was no interruption in the Wetsman girls' devotion to the movement since then. These are a few of the memorable contributions made by the Wetsmans, continuing with the iden- tifications of the Saulsons and the Davidsons, in major Jewish activities. A native of Iowa, Mrs. Saulson came to Detroit at age 13 and attended Central High School. In 12th grade, she won the German Prize for girls. .
