Crucial Peace Issues Await Critical April 25 Deadline

(Continued from Page 1)
fairs Nicholas Veliotes, met
this week with Begin and
other top level ministers.
Deputy Secretary of State
Walter Stoessel, the senior
State Department official
after Secretary of State
Alexander Haig, met with
Begin on Thursday.
The dispatch of both
men to the Middle East
within a few days of each
other indicated the Re-
agan Administration's
serious concern that the
Sinai withdrawal be car-

ried out smoothly and on
schedule and that Israel
refrain from any military
action against Palesti-
nian bases in Lebanon.
There have been uncon-
firmed reports that Haig
himself may come to the
region next week if
necessary to keep the
peace process from de-
railing.
Veliotes, who visited
Cairo before coming to
Jeruealem, was reportedly
given a long list of Israel's
complaints against Egypt

NEW YORK — Israel's
nuclear policy has been the
target of unfair criticism
from opponents of nuclear
weapons, according to Char-
lotte Jacobson, chairman of
the World Zionist Organiza-
tion - American Section.
In a statement issued ear-
lier this month, Mrs. Jacob-
son cited the "unfriendly
and critical" reaction by nu-
clear protesters following
Israel's bombing of an
Iraqi nuclear facility last
July. The "destruction of
nuclear weaponry in the
arsenal of a nation which is
an advooate of terrorism
and war should be a reason
for congratulating Israel,"
Mrs. Jacobson said.

England, France and
Canada will offer an excit-
ing array of theater based
on Jewish themes.
American sponsors for
the festival include the Na-
tional Foundation for
Jewish Culture in New
York, the Kinneret Founda-
tion in Washington D.C.,
and the Emet Foundation in
Los Angeles.
Participants from this
country will include
Joseph Papp, producer
of the New York Shakes-
peare Festival, Herschel
Bernardi, Elizabeth
Swados, Joseph Chaikin
and Nobel Prizewinner
Isaac Bashevis Singer,
who will receive an
honorary doctorate from
the university.
The American Jewish
Theater will present Arthur
Miller's "The Price," star-
ring Joseph Buloff, and two
experimental works by the
Traveling Jewish Theater
will be performed.

over the weekend by Ismet
Abdel - Meguid, head of the
Egyptian delegation to the
non-aligned conference
there.
Israelis concede that
most of these complaints are
of long standing and have

when he met with Begin.
These include: President
Iosni Mubarak's refusal to
visit Jerusalem which
caused his scheduled trip' to
Israel last month to be
shelved; allegations that
Egypt has deployed more
troops than allowed under
the peace treaty in the areas
of Sinai it already controls;
and charges that Egypt is
drawing closer to the Pales-
tine Liberation Organiza-
tion and is helping the PLO
smuggle arms from Sinai
into the Gaza Strip.
Israel has also taken of-
fense to the omission of any
reference to the Camp
David accords and the au-
tonomy negotiations in the
speech delivered in Kuwait
