THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, April 16, 1982 45 Specialty Camps, Music, Dance and Art Exhibit Slated at Center Safari, a coed program for fifth and sixth graders, and Teen Caravan, a coed pro- gram for seventh-10th graders, will be among the specialty camps offered this summer through the Jewish Community Center's day camp program. The Safari program in- cludes day trips to a ranch for horseback riding, Windsor for five-pin bowl- ing, the Waterford Wave The SHEL ROTT Pool, the FBI offices, a newspaper, automobile fac- tory and more. Conducting the program will be Mel Clayton, super- visor of special education in the Berkley Schools. Clayton holds a BA degree from Michigan State Uni- versity and MSW degree from Wayne State Univer- sity. The Teen Caravan also offers day trips and culminates in a three-day activity at the end of the session. Miss Zuroff is a dental hygiene degree candidate at the Hadassah School of Dentistry in Jerusalem. Her fiance is a master's de- gree candidate at Wayne State University. An August wedding is planned. . in kindergarten through sixth grade. Two camp sessions are offered: June 28-July 23 and July 26-Aug. 20, and programs take place at the Camp Ruth Village on the Center's West Bloom- field site. Music and Dance Program Slated A world premiere dance, choreographed by Jacob Lascu to the music of Julius Chajes' "Israeli Melodies" will be performed by the Festival Dancers 3:30 p.m. April 25 in the DeRoy Studio Theater at the main Jewish Center. Harriet Berg, the director of the Festival Dancers, and Barbara Rinaldo, formerly of the Jewish Center staff, have collaborated on a dance to the music of Aaron Copland's Piano Sonata No. 2, entitled "The Two," that will be performed by Mrs. Berg and Bunny Nickamin. Deanna Sperka has created a special set for the occasion, which honors Chajes' 42nd year at the center. Chajes will perform and conduct his own compositions. Guests from all segments of the artistic community will perform to pay tribute td him. Tickets are on sale at the Center cashier's office. The exhibit is entitled "Detroit/ Haifa." Mrs. Spin- ner and her husband Ronald, an architect, moved from Detroit to Jerusalem in 1977, and subsequently moved to Haifa. Mrs. Spinner received a BFA degree at the Univer- sity of Michigan, School of Art, concentrating in paint- ing and two-dimensional design. She is a Merit Scholarship recipient. She has exhibited her work at the Livernois Gallery in De- troit in 1977; the BFA Show, U-M in 1977; Michi- gan Watercolor Show in 1975; Jean Slusser Gallery, Ann Arbor in 1975; and also in Haifa in December 1981.
