Federation Board Allocates Campaign Funds

The Board of Governors of
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion has approved a budget
formula for allocation of
1982 Allied Jewish Cam-
paign funds to its domestic
and overseas beneficiaries
based on an estimated
Campaign achievement of
$19,100,00.
After extended debate,
the board adopted a pro-
posal to divide equally be-
tween domestic and over-
seas categories the in-
creased sum available for
allocation beyond the 1981
apportionments.
With the subtraction of
Campaign costs and pro-
vision for estimated uncol-
lectible accounts, the esti-
mated totals available for
allocation will transmit
$10,517,500 for overseas
and Israel and $6,802,500
for domestic needs.
Among the domestic
categories are local and
national agencies; over-
seas beneficiaries are
supported primarily with
funds channelled
through the United
Jewish Appeal. Addi-.
tional overseas proceeds
designated for Project
Renewal are transmitted
in full to UJA and are not
subject to the budgeting

formula.
To be determined at fu-
ture meetings is the distri-
bution of grants to indi-
vidual beneficiaries within
each category.
The board also received
an eye-witness report con-
cerning the Falasha situa-
tion, following a recently
concluded fact-finding mis-
sion to Ethiopia under the
auspices of the National
Jewish Community Rela-
tions Advisory Council.
In other action, the Board
of Governors approved a
capital allocation of $12,000
for health and safety im-
provements at the Brighton
camp of Fresh Air Society.

There is no quality so de-
plorable but that it some-
times serves a use, and no
quality so praiseworthy but
that it sometimes is la-
mentable: Silence is a com-
mendable trait, but it is de-
testable when preserved
while listening to absur-
dities; wrath is reprehensi-
ble, but if expressed over
transgressions, it is
praiseworthy.
