The Oak Park library has
End to State Law

Two Michigan schools,
one run by the Sheridan
Road Baptist Church of
Saginaw and the other by
the First Baptist Church of
Bridgeport, have asked In-
gham County Circuit Court
to overturn a law requiring
both private and public
schools to employ state-
certified teachers.
The controversy began
three years ago when both
schools failed to file a state-
required annual report due
on the fourth Friday after
Labor Day. The report must
include the number of stu-
dents and confirm that all
teachers meet state certifi-
cation requirements.
Administrators of the two
schools maintain that be-
cause they are private in-
stitutions the state has no
business knowing how
many students they enroll
or how teachers are
selected.

rescheduled its ethnic folk
song program for 7:30 p.m.
Sunday in the library.
Folk singer-guitarist
Larry Bassin will present a
prograrr,i:of Yiddish, He-
brew, AtAsian and English
folk songs.
The program is sponsored
by the arts and cultural
commission and the Friends
of the Oak Park Library and
is open to the public free of
charge.
