HOW TO GIVE A SUCCESSFUL PARTY

Jewish Sci-Fi
Book Entertains

"The Tsaddik of the Seven
Wonders" is a Doubleday
science fiction novel written
by Isidore" Haibluni.
The tsaddik is Isaac ben
Rubin, a "wise and holy
man, respected scholar, an
official worker of miracles
. . ." The tsaddik and his
assistant, Greenberg, a
"homunculus" almost too
small to see, are time
travelers with a mission.
They have to put the uni-
verse in order.
Haiblum spices his novel
with page after page of
Jewish references and in-
flections, Commentary on
past,* present and future
events and people. His wit,
knowledge and grasp of
Jewry and world affairs
make his "Tsaddik of the
Seven Wonders" enjoyable
on several levels.

He emphasized that the
people of Jordan are
really Palestinians: "It is
the same people, the
same tribes, the same
kinship, the same clans.
And this country, Jor-
dan, was part of Pales-
tine."

The natural flow of kin-
ship relations is more from
West to East than South to
North, he explains. A Pales-
tinian Arab residing in
Hebron still has more fam-
ily ties with a Jordanian liv-
ing in Es Salt than he has
with another Palestinian
living in Nablus. In other
words, the people of what is
today Jordan are really
Palestinians.

However, this was only
fitting, since it was their
strictly artificial creation in
the first place. For purely
colonial motives, they sim-
ply sliced off 80 percept of
Mandatory Palestine in
order to satisfy the needs of
a young Hejazi Saudi, Pr-
ince Abdullah, who became
Jordan's first ruler.
"If it had been called 'The
Hashemite Kingdom of
Palestine,' " London-born
Kimche declared, "the
whole question of self-
determination would be a
different one. There is a
Palestinian state which
happens to be called Jordan
today."
