Cerone made his Town Hall debut in 1967 and has performed exten- sively both in recital and with symphony orchestra. He was on the faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music for nine years and was chairman of the string department at the Cleve- land Institute of Music for 10 years, the last year of which he was awarded the Kulas Professorship in Vio- lin. In 1974, Cerone founded and, through January 1981, served as the director of the Cleveland Chamber Music Seminar. Flint Obituaries Lawrence Covitz Lawrence Covitz, owner of the Flint Home Furnish- ing Co. for 30 years, died March 21 in Hollywood, Fla. He was 78. Born in Detroit, Mr. Covitz was a member and past president of Temple Beth El, Flint. A graduate of the University of Michi- gan, Mr. Covitz was the past president of the Michigan Furniture Retailers Asso- ciation, honorary vice president of the Flint Jewish Federation and past president of the Phoenix Club. He also was active in the Greater Flint Downtown Association and Brandeis University. He is survived by his wife, Helen; a son, Andrew of California; a daughter, Mrs. Monte (Sally) Simmons of Flint; a sister, Irene of California; and two grandchildren. lemmas that face American Jews.
