High Inflation

TEL AVIV (ZINS) —
Economists for Koor Ltd.
and the Israel Manufactur-
ers Association believe that
the Israeli shekel will fall
100-120 percent in value-
this year, to somewhere
near 33 shekels to $1 by the
end of 1982.
The present exchange
rate is near 19 shekels to $1.
When the shekel was intro-
duced in October 1980 the
rate was six shekels to $1.

No Draft Needed

JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
A recent Hebrew Univer-
sity survey showed that 90
percent of Israel's 17-year
olds would serve in the Is-
rael Defense Forces even if
mandatory service was
abolished.
However, one-third of
those questioned said they
would like to serve less than
three years now required for
active duty.

A Fair Risk

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — The
newspaper Haaretz re-
ported that Israel is consid-
ered a fair financial risk, ac-
cording to a listing of 104
•ountries, but it has de-
_lined somewhat during the
last few years.
Israel now ranks 68th on
the list, compared to 59th in
1979. Jordan and Egypt
now rank 66th and 67th,
just ahead of Israel.
