reasons are offered for this
custom.

egg gives a feeling of eter-
nity which reflects our tra-
ditional belief in the immor-
tality of the soul.
Second, the egg gives way
to a birth of a new organism.
This reminds us that even
though the egg no longer re-
tains its original form it has
led to a new life. Likewise,

There is also a custom of
providing the mourners
with round shapes of bread
such as bagels, etc. This, of
course, is again a symbol of
the eternity of the soul re-
presented by the never-

shape of the bread.
