Pavent ing Coniernpovonid Iraining PoNoveness an A New workshop Anti-Semitic Incidents Down in Philadelphia PHILADELPHIA (JTA) — Synagogues in the Greater Philadelphia area have reported a 30 percent decrease in the number of anti-Semitic incidents be- tween 1981 and 1982, a year when anti-Semitism in gen- eral rose dramatically throughout North America. The overall decrease in theft and vandalism is at- tributed to security meas- ures taken by many local synagogues following a spe- cial program on synagogue and institutional security sponsored by the JCRC and the Philadelphia Board of Rabbis. Improvements in outdoor lighting systems, in particular, have proven to be an effective deterrent against institutional van- dalism.
