Eban to Speak at Oakland U.
Israeli statesman Abba
Eban will speak in the Oak-
land Center Crockery at
Oakland University at 2:15
p.m. April 5.

Life Lecture Board, Eban
will speak on "Can There Be
Peace in the Mideast?"
Eban served as liaison
officer for the Jewish
Agency to the United Na-
tions Special Committee on
Palestine. After statehood,
Eban was the Israeli am-
bassador to the UN and U.S.
He also was minister of
education and culture,
deputy prime minister
under Levi Eshkol and
foreign minister under
Golda Meir. He is cur-
rently a member of Knes-
set.

Concurrent with the
Eban talk will be an exhibit,
"Israel, My Beautiful Coun-
try," in the Oakland Uni-
versity exhibit lounge. The
exhibit is sponsored by the

JNF Blue Box
Clearance Set
The Jewish National
Fund's semi-annual Blue
Box clearance will start
April 11 and continue
through May 16, it was an-
nounced by Mrs. Frank Sil-
verman, chairman of the
Blue Box committee.
Among-the organizations
whose volunteers will aid in
locating `6.nd clearing the
more than 5,000 JNF Blue
Boxes in Greater Detroit
will be Hadassah, Mizrachi
Wbmen, Pioneer Women,
Northwest Child Rescue
Women, Women of Jewish
National Fund and JNF
Young Women. In addition,
many youth organizations
and private individuals will
be offering their services as
volunteers.
Ruben H. Isaacs is
president-of the Greater De-
troit JNF, and Percy Kap-
lan is executive director;
Mrs. Jules Kraft is pres-
ident of Women of JNF, and
Mrs. Lawrence Sklar is
president of Young Women
of JNF.
All contributions to the
JNF are tax deductible.

aid in the location and
clearance of. Blue Boxes. To
volunteer or for informa-

WB Book Ban
Is Confirmed
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
An army source quoted' by
the Jerusalem Post said
there are about 1,100 titles
on the list of books banned
in the occupied territories
by the Israeli authorities.
The issue was raised in
the Knesset by Labor MK
Abba Eban who said about
2,000 books were on the
prescribed list and asked
Defense Minister Ariel
Sharon to,explain why they
were banned.
Menahem Milson, who
heads the new civil ad-
ministration on the West
Bank denounced as "lies"
press reports here and
abroad that the banned
books include George Or-
well's "1984," Man
Moorehead's books on the
Nile and Shakespeare's
"The Merchant of Venice."

given by the Jewish Na-
tional Fund June 16 at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
The Lakers are being
honored for "their long re-

NEW YORK (JTA) — A
federal appeals court last
week sustained a lower fed-
eral court ruling which held
unconstitutional an arbit-
rary decision by a Texas
public school board which
had limited to two days a
year, "excused absences" by
students for religious rea-
sons.
