NEW YORK — The Tel Aviv Maccabi basketball team is the favorite in the European Cup Champion- ship which will be held at the end of the month in Col- - ogne, West Germany. • Mac- cabi is the defending Euro- pean champion. Maccabi, already loaded 1 talent, may acquire an guard, Jack Zim- merman, who played his college ball at the Univer- sity of Dayton. An additional starter, Mickey Hershkowitz, spent one year in the Un- ited States at the Univer- sity of Nevada at Las Vegas. He left the univer- sity following his freshman year. Kornreich noted that grocers and food suppliers know that Jewish shoppers will pay more for Passover products "and invariably charge higher prices for them." Accordingly, he ad- ded, "The very same item, or its equivalent, is likely to be available at a lower price if it can be bought off the gen- eral merchandise shelves of the supermarket instead of from the special Passover section." He recommended that ob- servant shoppers buy can- ned or bottled Passover pro- ducts which have a long shelf life "immediately after Passover for next Pas- sover," adding that left-over Passover merchandise is often sold at clearance, after the holiday, "at a fraction of its pre-Passover price." Shmurah matza, which many Orthodox families use "for the mitzva of eating mat- zoh," is used three times during each Seder and its use is not required by Jewish Law for the rest of the Seder or for the rest of Passover, he said. He declared that such purchases, such as frozen pure fruit juices, must be purchased, at the latest, two days before Passover. After the laws of Passover go into effect the day before Pas- sover, all process foods purchaSed for Passover must be produced under Passover rabbinical super- vision.
