THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Cultural Programs, Jungreis Lecture on Agenda for Jewish Community Center The Jewish Community Center will present the Oakland Dance Theater 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the Aaron DeRoy Studio Thea- ter in the main Center com- plex. The program will feature modern dance pieces and excerpts from "Othello." Sue Ater, co-director of the group, will perform. Esther Jungreis to Deliver Talk Esther Jungreis, founder of "Hineni" (Here I Am), a movement dedicated to re- directing Jews to their roots, will speak at the Jewish Center at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Jungreis has just published a book, "The Jewish Soul on Fire." The public is invited free of charge. Israeli Artists , Works Exhibited A variety of Israeli artists will be represented in the second Danielle Peleg art I exhibit in the Hamburger Lobby of the Center. Running through March 31, the exhibit features ar- tists and craftsmen such as Yaacov Again, Naftaly Be- zem, Moshe Gat, David Yankel Gershtein, Menashe Ginzburg, Kadishman, Yeheskel Streichman, David Sharir, Shalom of Safed, Yossi Stern, Rephael Uzan, Ruth Zarfati and more. Special Programs at Center Camp Specialty camps for chil- dren in fifth through 10th grades will be offered as part of the Jewish Center's summer day camp program scheduled to take place June 28-July 23 and July 26-Aug. 20 on the Center premises. The tennis and sports camp, under the direction of David Cohen, is a coed prog- ram which includes a morn- ing session devoted to shar- pening tennis skills and an afternoon program focusing on the fundamentals of a different sport every week. Racquetball, softball and soccer are among the sports to be covered. Gail Greenfield, assistant director of health and phys- ical education at the Center, will oversee the gymnastics and dance program. The dance portion of the prog- ram focuses on the basics of modern and jazz dancing, aerobic dancing and gym- nastic floor work. The gym- nastic segment is devoted to tumbling, balance beam, vaulting and uneven paral- lel bars. the water. Enrollment in this camp is limited. Mel Clayton, supervisor of special education in the Berkley Schools, will direct the safari travel program -for fifth and sixth grade boys and girls. Campers will take day trips throughout the metropolitan area. Among the scheduled ac- tivities are: horseback rid- ing, five-pin bowling in Windsor, a trip to the wave pool, a visit to the FBI of- fices and newspaper and au- tomobile plant tours. Older children will be able to participate in teen caravan. Directed by De- bbie Keil, instructional supervisor in the Pontiac Schools, the program is for persons in grades seven through 10, and culminates in a three-day trip. A full-day camp program is available for children in kindergarten through sixth grade and a special half-day plan is offered for pre-school and kindergarten-age chil- dren. The special child-care op- tion is available at an extra charge. Fees are discounted for children enrolled before the May 1 early registra- tion deadline.
