NANCY GURWIN .. .
will open with her great
"Funny Girl" . . . this June
. . . at Michigan Inn . . . tak-
ing over the outside stage
. . . facing J.L. Hudson
Drive . . . and its large
grounds . . . for what should
be a fantastic theater under
the stars . . . Wonderful to
-low be able to see Nancy
_ Ind her fine production
company in a class atmos-
phere.
IT FELL TO the lot of a
well-known Detroiter who
gained the title "world
traveler" to share in the
centennial reminiscences of
a New Zealand community.
Max Nosanchuk always
makes it a point to visit the
synagogues in cities he vis-
its, everywhere on the
globe.
Christ Church, New Zea-
land, was on Max's tour
itinerary last month .. .
and he shared in the con-
cluding events of the cente-
nary of the Jewish .commu-
nity in that city . . . Canter-
bury Jewish Congregation
is the name of the Christ
Church synagogue . . . It
was established 100 years
ago, simultaneous with the
formation of the organized
Christian congregation .. .
Both received government .
aid.
The thriving Jewish
community, Max learned
from Rabbi K. Lewiston and
synagogue president A.
Goldstein, has declined to
the present 20 families .. .
There are no young people
left there . . . most of them
having gone to Israel . . . He
was told that this is the fate
of most of the small com-
munities in that part of the
world.
A SINGLES CLUB that
is not strictly a singles
group . . . that's Rose Sher-
rer Socialites . . . Founded
26 years ago, the group also
includes members who met
each other while in the
organization . . . and still
belong . . . 26th Anniver-
sary Dance by the 102
membership is set for 9 p.m.
March 27 at Oak Park
Community Center . . . with
Eric Rosenow and His Con-
tinentals . . . For more info,
call chairman Max Trager,
- 355-3761.
WHAT A WAY TO have
- - - an opening . . . Sort of like
the beginning of two new
lives . . . That's the
being held tomorrow
I-
Mill on
Dixie Hwy. . . . Place will be
closed til 5 p.m., then open
for business as usual .. .
New owners of Waterford
Old Mill are Bill Jackson
and John Holihan . . . plan-
ning a bunch of interesting
things like fashion shows,
psychic readings, etc. .. .
Live music is Thursday
through Saturday.
IT'S THE NINTH an-
niversary week for Roman
Terrace beginning this
Monday . . . and first an-

niversary of McFrock's Sa-
loon downstairs . . . on Or-
chard Lake Rd. and 12 Mile
.. . Roman Terrace cele-
rates Monday with nine-
cent draft beer . . .
McFrock's this Monday has
draft beer for one cent.
RON CODEN SHOW is

Rochester Rd. in Troy .. .
Wednesday through Satur-
day til March 28.
LARRY NOZERO Jazz
Quartet is at Archibald's on
Woodward in Birmingham
through April 24.
- THERE'S ENTER-
TAINMENT six nights a
week again at Jakks,
Greenfield and 10 Mile.
SKYWALKER, Detroit's
popular dance band, will
debut in Dewey's at Michi-
' gan Inn this Monday . . . ap-
pearing through March 20
with show and dance sets
from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
"Tis a Grand 01' Irish
Happy Hour in Dewey's .. .
this Wednesday, 5 p.m. to 9
_p.m. . . . will feature The
Vagabonds . . . a strolling
minstrel group, and sing-
alongs . . . All green drinks
will be $1.50 and guests will
receive special St. Patrick's
Day party favors to wear.
CAROL HASKINS at
-- Jacques' Seafood, Tele-
graph, has a new title .. .
Certified Executive Chef
. . . given to her after 20
years of culinary expertise
. . . by Chefs DeCuisine
Association, Michigan
branch of the American
Culinary Federation.
The honor is recognized
as a tops in the fine art of
gourmet cooking . . . The
association is very selective
about who receives this
honor . . . and Carol is now
the only female Certified
Executive Chef in Michigan
. . . plus one of a limited
number in the United
States . . . She is a former
Gold Medal winner in in-
ternational culinary compe-
tition.
DIAMOND
JIM
BRADY on Seven Mile and
Greenfield is owned by Pat
and Matt Brady . . . open
Saturdays from 4 p.m. _-
plus valet parking . . .
been owned and operated by
the Brady family since 1954
. . . With. Pat and Matt now
doing the bartending .. .
giving that personal touch
. . . business has gotten bet-
ter.
The Diamond Jim Brady
in Town Center on Ever-
green is owned by brother
Tcm Brady . . . a separate
operation.
AUTOMATION MAY
SOON take over the booth
announcers' jobs at local TV
stations . . . Commercials
atop the slides plus station
breaks would be on tape . . .
That means even fewer jobs
. . . Wonder what AFTRA
(American Federation of
Television and Radio Ar-
tists) is doing about this?

The Oak Park Symphony
Orchestra in conjunction
with the Contemporary
Civic Ballet Company will
present "Coppelia" by Leo
Delibes at 8 p.m. Saturday

School.
Guest artist will be James
Dunne. Tickets are avail-
able at the Oak Park Li-
brary, the Flute Center,

rowse Bookstore.
