However, the show will be that planned by the Smith- sonian Institution Travel- ing Exhibit Service rather than the one the museum was to have mounted origi- nally. The museum's reversal followed an exchange of let- ters between Mayor Edward Koch and Douglas Dillon, chairman of the museum's board of directors. that showing the artifacts would involve "security risks from radical ele- ments." Spokesmen for major Jewish organizations de- nounced the museum's deci- sion as capitulation to fear and pressure. Dillon, in his response to Koch, said, "The Met is and remains firmly committed to the fundamental doctrine that curatorial and cultural decisions must not be pub- licized." - t--;.-GRE4TER He added that the museum would now work "with our col- leagues in Israel" and with the Smithsonian In- stitution to move quickly towards a solution. But Shmuel Moyal, spokesman for the Israel Consulate in New York, said, "To the , best of my knowledge and recollection, the repregentatives of the Metropolitan Museum of Art have not made any con- tact with the representa- 04110,1T-0 D$,Df.14. Koch charged that the museum had "surren- dered" the political free-- dom "conferred on the arts and cultural institu- tions" and had "subordi- nated curatorial consid- erations to political hal- lucinations and specula- five fears of reprisals by terrorists." Some 175,000 foreign-made sets were sold in Israel during the first six months of 1981. Israeli Television will not have the capability to broadcast in color for an- , other year. He stressed that no merger of the two bodies is intended. Another objective of the structural revision, Sterns- tein said, "is to vest greater control and authority in the American Zionist leader- ship." He said that it is impor tant to enlarge and in many cases institute an active Zionist presence in the local Jewish communities in America. sYmPatitY FRUIT, BASKET New '82 Cutlass Ciera Cpe.
