Campaign Starts
for Falasha Jews

Right in Mr

LOS ANGELES — The
American Association for
Ethiopian Jews has an-
nounced a fund-raising
campaign to begin its own
rescue operation for the
Jews of Ethiopia.
The AAEJ has criticized
Jewish organizations and
the Israeli government. It
claims they have not done
enough to save the black
Jews of Ethiopia.
The organization says
it is asking donors to
pledge $3,000 to save a
Falasha life. It is asking
for donations of $300
now, and the remainder
when the Falasha is
brought out of Ethiopia.
Persons wishing to help
the organization can write
the American Association
for Ethiopian Jews, 304

Yad Vashem
Honors Polish
Christian Woman

GENEVA (JTA) — A
Polish Christian woman
who saved the lives of Jews
during World War II was
presented with the Yad
Vashem "Medal of the Just"
by the Israeli Ambassador
to Switzerland, Mattityahu
Adler, in Bern.
Honored at a reception in
the Ambassador's home was
Irena Vicenz who, with her
late husband, Stanislav
Vicenz, fled Poland and
lived as refugees in Hun-
gary during the war. When
Hungary was occupied by
the Nazis, they hid many
Jews who otherwise would
have been deported.
Ambassador Adler noted
that had they been dis-
covered by the Gestapo, the
couple would have been
shot. They settled in
Lausanne after the war.
Stansilav died in 1971.
