Restaurant Duglass is
synonymous with gourmet
French cooking in an ele-
gant atmosphere.
Golden Mushroom in
Southfield is where Chef
Milos creates fresh fish,
special hors d'oeuvres, roast
rack of lamb crusted with
herbs and sumptuous des-
serts.
Still in Southfield, Jac-
ques offers elegant dining
around a glass-walled at-
rium. Featured, says
III;
Barnes, are duck, quail,
shrimp-chicken creole and
unusual appetizers.
John Laffrey's Vine-
yards in Southfield is an-
other fine dining spot with
sweet filet mignon and
other tasty entrees. There's
an __oyster bar downstairs
along with good entertain-
ment in the Annex.
All this goes to prove, you
don't have to travel far to
enjoy excellent food in ele-
gant surroundings when
the Detroit area has so
much to offer.

Ex-Detroiter Writes Volume
in Jewish Children's Series
There is a heavy Detroit
flavor to the latest chil-
dren's booklet published in
the Union Education Series
of the Commission on
Jewish Education of the
Union of American Hebrew
Congregations and the Cen-
tral Conference of Ameri-
can Rabbis (Reform).
"The Jewish Home Detec-
tives" is written by former
Detroiter Deborah Shayne
Syme, wife of the editor of
the series, Rabbi Daniel
Syme. She is the daughter of
former Oak Park City
Councilman and Mrs. Sid-
ney Shayne, and daughter-
in-law of Rabbi and Mrs. M.
Robert Syme of Temple Is-
rael.

"The Jewish Home De-
tectives" is the brief story
of two children who
spend a rainy day finding
Jewish ceremonial ob-
jects and books in their
home. It is beautifully
illustrated by Marlene
Lobell Ruthen, whose
drawings in black, white
and blue are given equal
prominence with the text.
McFROCK'S
The final page of the brief
story encourages children to
play Jewish detective in
their own home.

Arabs Forming
Youth Orchestra
JERUSALEM (JNI) —
The participation of a small
group of young Arab musi-
cians in the annual
Jerusalem Youth Orchestra
concert Feb. - 8 realized a
15-year-old dream.
Overcoming technical
and financial problems, a
shortage of instruments,
bureaucracy and the lack of
youth orchestras in Arab
Jerusalem before 1967, the
director of the Municipal
Music Center in 1980 ap-
proached the East
Jerusalem school system,
initiated a talent hunt,
bought the necessary in-
struments with the aid of
the Jeruslaem Foundation
and began to train 40 gifted
10-14 year olds.
Recently, the orchestra
was enlarged by some 60
pupils from two Arab girls'
schools and some 20 Arme-
nian youths. The 100 Arab
youngsters now play
alongside the 22-year-old
Jewish band and may send
its participants to Israeli
music academies as well.
