Stephen Wise
Free Synagogue
Marks 75th Year
NEW YORK — Rabbi
Balfour Brickner is plan-
ning a "new beginning" for
the Stephen Wise Free
Synagogue, which will
mark its 75th anniversary
this fall.
The synagogue has made
several changes during the
past year. A female rabbi,
Helene Ferris, has joined
the staff and, for the first
time in its history, the
synagogue has a female
cantor, Ellen Math.
The sanctuary has
undergone several physical
changes in preparation for
the anniversary including
the removal of the barrier
between the pulpit and the
pews.
