Restaurateurs should vow to keep their eating spots neat and clean for health purposes and to attract customers. Dirty restrooms are repulsive. The same goes for unc- lean dishes, silverware, tables, floors and em- ployees. Business managers must know how to manage people and motivate them to do right by the customers. That's where the human re- lations aspect comes in and that's important. On the subject of custom- ers, it would be more fair if they gave a new restaurant time to settle in and get the kinks out of the operation. Poor service and cold food could create a bad image but they may be temporary. It might be a lot better the second time around. So much for resolutions. Fine dining doesn't have to be for twilight to mid- night anymore. Brunching and lunching during day- light hours can be much more enjoyable than a quick bagel and coffee or a corned beef sandwich on the run. When the Sunday mor- nign hungries stir you from a warm bed, you can get the break you deserve before starting another week of drudgery. MEL BALL and COLOURS NOW APPEARING TUESDAYS THRU SATURDAYS 29230 Franklin Road at Twelve Mile and Northwestern Hwy. 357-3430 For brunch and jazz New Orlean's style, Eden Glen in Troy is a fun place where the first meal of the day may well last far into the after- noon. Doug Jacobs and his Red Garter band liven things up. Musicians set the pace not only with authen- tic jazz but by downing a row of Raymos Fizzes and other favorites from the land of dreamy dreams. From eggs benedict to shrimp creole, the food is French and hearty and the buffet table holds bowls of fresh fruit, pastries and lots more to satisfy the sweet tooth. For your gourmet Sunday cravings, try The Magic Pan brunches at Somerset Mall. Crepes benedict, eggs Sausalito and apple crepes are a few selections care- fully cooked on the unique magic pan. Sunday brunches at Michigan Inn in South- field offers all you can eat with fruit, juice, sweets and beverages to accompany the numerous entrees. Muffins, bagels and sweet rolls abound. Ala Cart Cafe in Applegate Square features "chef's famous Sunday brunch." We haven't tried it but if it's as tasty as the lunches in this popular spot on Northwestern and Inks- ter, brunch has to be a win- ner. Among our favorites at Ala Cart is a double-cheese spinach omelette with Mor- nay sauce. Another is Chevette Salade with shrimp and pineapple on a bed of lettuce which looks as appetizing as it tastes. An- other good lunch bet is Jive Turkey — sliced turkey and avacado with swiss cheese topped with Hollandaise sauce. The specialty drinks with or without liquor are unique and delicious, espe- cially the frothy ones made with ice cream. Diggers on Grand River in Farmington Hills has the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel right at home and revel in a long, leisurely lunch. We enjoyed a crock of Charley's chow- der, tender crab legs and a wonderfully tasty hot apple mountain with ice cream, just the right spices, whip- ped cream and a flaky crust. It was indulgent but the lunch at Diggers swings it for the whole day. Darlin' Lilly's on Or- chard Lake in Farmington Hills has a variety of good munchies for lunchers. If you go for Mexican food, the Nachos Supremos will tickle your palate. The ground rounds come any way you like them with French fries or fresh veget- ables and Lilly's famous dip. Omelettes and salads make good lunching at Lilly's. Diamond Jim Brady's in Prudential Town Center may not come up to the orig- inal on Seven Mile in De- troit. But the shrimp salad and quiches are a good lunch bet. (Continued on Page 33) Detroit Free Press Detroit News AAA Motor News Carry-at Buddy's Pizza Dinirg Locale N. 1 11125 CONANT, Cor.
