Begin Warns PLO Terrorists

F

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Pre-
mier Menahem Begin has
served notice on the Pales-
tine Liberation Organiza-
tion that if any Israeli citi-
zen is killed as a result of a
PLO attack anywhere, Is-
rael would take "immediate
action" against the PLO in
south Lebanon.
His remarks, in an inter-
view with a Columbian
journalist, implied that Is-
rael would disregard the
cease-fire on the Israeli-
Lebanese border if the PLO
caused casualties among Is-
raelis. Begin noted that a
e— number of bombs have been
found in various places in
recent days but were de-
fused before they did any
harm. He said this was due
to the alertness of the popu-
lation. "But if some people
get killed, we will take im-

mediate action," he said.
In Washington, the State
Department indicated that
it believes the cease-fire
along the Israeli-Lebanese
border is broad enough to
prevent the Palestine Lib-
eration Organization from
conducting terrorist acts
against Israel from outside
Lebanon.
"We are of the opinion
that the cessation of hos-
tilities is significantly
broad to prevent violence
instigated by any party,"
spokesman Dean Fischer
said. However, he would
not comment on remarks
by PLO leader Yasir
Arafat in Beirut last Sun-
day that the cease-fire
only prevented the PLO
from attacking across the
Lebanese border.

Meanwhile, Israeli De-
fense Minister" Ariel Sharon
affirmed that Israel had no
plans to attack southern
Lebanon but said it would
react sharply to any threat
from across the Lebanese
border or Syria.
Sharon, in a television
interview, defended De-
puty Premier Simcha
Ehrlich who has come under
attack from both Likud and
Labor MKs for allegedly
leaking Israeli plans to in-
vade Lebanon to Israeli re-
porters and claiming his in-
tervention caused their
cancellation.
Ehrlich could not have
"leaked information about a
government plan and
claimed credit for having
stopped it because there was
no such plan," Sharon said.

Coordinated Non-Jewish
Support for Israel Asked

LOS ANGELES (JTA) —
Rev. Isaac Rottenberg,
executive director of the
National Christian Leader-
ship Conference for Israel,
has called for a more unified
approach among Christians
supporting Israel.
Speaking to the Jewish
Federation Council Com-
munity Relations Commit-
tee's Cmmission on the
Middle East, Rottenberg
said that non-Jewish sup-
port is often ineffective be-
- cause the groups, coming as
they do from different
Christian ideological view-
points, are so fragmented
there is little opportunity
for cooperation, coordina-
tion or communication.
Rottenberg praised
numerous programs aimed
at creating dialogues be-
tween Christians and Jews,
but said a true dialogue
should lead to a tangible
demonstration of solidarity,
one recognizing the role of
Judaism in Christian his-
tory, as a living faith, and as
a people who have survived
1:--7 a terrible trauma — the
Holocaust.
The minister noted that
numerous Christian
groups supporting Israel
are being established
around the country espe-
cially among evangelical
Christians. Very often, he
observed, the groups
may have some animosity
toward each other.
But this is not really im-
portant as far as support of
Israel is concerned, and
could be a very powerful
force of support if a
