CJC Takes on Biased Preacher

eral to prosecute Mel-
nichuk. A CJC spokesman
said a letter was sent in De-
cember to the preacher and
his board of directors asking
for an apology or retraction,
but no reply has been re-
ceived.

TORONTO (JTA) — The
Canadian Jewish Congress
has complained to the On-
tario' Attorney General
about a Pentecostal
preacher in suburban To-
ronto who delivered what
the Congress said was a
"vicious, shameless and bla-
tantly offensive" anti-
Semitic and anti-Catholic
sermon last year.
The preacher, Rev. Paul
Melnichuk, 50, of the Faith
Cathedral, delivered a ser-
mon in which he denounced
Jews as the "most unlovable
people" but since God wants
us to bless them . . ." I'll
bless Jacob, though he's

miserable."
Melnichuk, who tapeschis
sermons and then sells
copies in the church's gift
shop, also said:
"My God, look at the
old crooked Jew, as soon
as he sees you he's won-
dering how much money
he can make on you, and
how he can gyp you.
That's Jacob all over
again. It's right in his na-
ture . . . They crucified
him (Jesus) — the Jews
did — the Romans didn't

WASHINGTON — Sen.
Claiborne Pell (D-R.I.)
hosted a Senate screening of
the Holocaust documentary
"Who Shall Live and Who
Shall Die" last week.
The film says the
Roosevelt Administration
ignored growing evidence in
the 1940s that Germans
were committing genocide.
It also says American
Jewish organizations
and establishment fig-
ures, because of inaction
and politcal infighting,

failed to push for rescue
programs and must bear
some of the responsibility
for the destruction of
European Jewry.
Pell's cousin, Robert, was
a State Department officer
at the time, and his father,
Herbert, was a U.S. repre-
sentative to the UN War
Crimes Commission in
London. According to the
New York Times, both were
active in efforts to allow
Nazi victims to enter the
U.S.

No North Sea
Oil for Israel

LONDON (JTA) — The
British government has
made it clear that despite its
mounting oil surplus it has
not changed its policy of re-
fusing to sell North Sea oil
to Israel.
Hamish Gray, Deputy
Energy Minister, told Par-
liament that there was no
special restriction aimed at
Israel. However, Britain
would sell oil only to fellow
members of the European
Economic Community, to
members of the Interna-
tional Energy Agency and
to other existing customers.
