Reuben Levin, an attor-
ney for more than 60 years,
died Feb. 2 at age 82.
Born in Russia, Mr. Levin
came to Detroit 79 years
ago. He worked at Fisher
Body while attending the
Detroit College of Law. He

Loraine
Carson,
a
member of Jewish com-
munal organizations, died
Feb. 6 at age 64.
A native Detroiter, Mrs.
Carson was the past
esident of Temple
.nanu--El Sisterhood, a
board member of the Michi-
gan Federation of Temple
Sisterhoods and a volunteer
for Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion activities.
She leaves her husgand,
Herbert; two sons, Robert
and Charles; a daughter,
Mrs. Stuart (Gail) Finney of
Bloomington, Minn; a
brother, Gerald "Buddy"
Shapiro; and seven grand-
children.

Leo Baron

Leo Baron, a retired mer-
chant who gave many vol-
unteer hours to communal
agencies, died Feb. 9 in
Florida. He was 75.
A native of Austria, Mr.
Baron came to the U.S. in
1936. Mr Baron served for
many years as an interpre-
ter at Sinai Hospital. He
was active in tasks on be-
half of the Allied Jewish
Campaign. Mr. Baron was a
member of Cong. Shaarey
Zede• .
He is survived by his wife,
Lanie; a daughter, Mrs.
Alvin (Sylvia) West of
Rockville, Md.; and two
grandchildren.

He then joined the firm of
Friedman, Meyers and
Keyes and subsequently
went into private practice.
He was a member of the De-
troit and Michigan Bar
Associations.
Mr. Levin was instru-
mental in founding the
Hebrew Benevolent
Society and was . a
member of the Zionist
Organization of America
for more than 40 years.
He was a member of the
former Cong. Beth
Moses.
He also was a founder of
the forerunner of the
Downtown Synagogue. He
was a member of the IOOF
since 1935 and held many
offices including grand
master in Jericho Temple
and Building Association
and in the first Jewish
IOOF rc7dge.
He is survived by his wife,
Fannie; two sons, Samuel J.
of Wilmette, Ill., and Saul
G. of Canton; two brothers,
Simon of Chicago, Ill., and
Alvin Lynn; and two
grandsons.

Moshe Menuhin,
Anti-Zionist,
Musician's Kin

LOS ANGELES — Moshe
Menuhin, father of famed
violinist Yehudi Menuhin,
died Feb. 4 at age 89.
The elder Mr. Menuhin
was regarded as one of four
or five of the most notorious
anti-Zionist and anti-Israel
propagandists in this coun-
try.

Samaritan Priest

JERUSALEM — Asher
Ben-Mazliah Halevy, 87,
the high priest of the an-
cient Samaritan commu-
nity, has died near Nablus.

Donald Schiff

Donald G. Schiff, a semi-
retired attorney, died Feb. 6
at age 55.
A native Detroiter, Mr.
Schiff was residing in Mar-
gate, Fla., at the time of his
death.
He was the former secre-
tary of Temple Israel- and
the past president of the
temple's couples club and
men's club.
He was a member of the
Southfield Police Re-
serves and on the South-
field Planning Commis-
sion for 10 years. In 1970,
he ran unsuccessfully for
the post of mayor of
Southfield.
He leaves Natalie Schiff;
three sons, Dr. Marc of Sac-
ramento, Calif., Gary of
Margate, Fla., and Steven of
Royal Oak; two brothers,
Dr. Richard of Whittier,
Calif., and Lawrence of
Bloomfield Hills; a sister,
Mrs. Mickey (Barbara) Mil-
berger of Farmington Hills;
and one grandson.

Bessie Dutsch

Bessie Dutsch, a volun-
teer at the Jewish Home for
Aged-Borman Hall and a
member of Jewish com-
munal organizations, died
Feb. 9 at age 75.
Born in Traverse City,
,Mrs. Dutsch was the former
owner of Cass-Warren
Drugs in Detroit. She owned
the store from 1924 to 1967.
She frequently volun-
teered at the Borman Hall
gift shop. She was a member
of Temple Emanu-El and its
sisterhood, the JewiSh His-
torical Society of Michigan,
Hadassah; Pioneer Women
and National Council of
Jewish Women.
She leaves three sisters,
Mrs. Paul (Esther) Blender
of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Adolph
(Ethel) Velasco of Los
Angeles, Calif., and Jennie
Alper.
