As usual, he was really that good. "The Man," as he is re- ferred to by those close to him, came to Detroit a day earlier . . . to attend his favorite restaurant here . . . Pat Archer's Excalibur on Northwestern and Franklin at 12 Mile Rd. . . . and again have his favorite dish there . . . the baby back bar-b-q ribs . . . pre- pared by Chef Marty Wilks. They were served by wait- resses Lorri Rakas and Rosa D'Agostino . . . who waited on Sinatra, close friend Jilly Rizzo his pianist, and Eddie Perlstein, Sinatra's per- sonal theatrical manager. The great voice called Pat from Washington, D.C. that he was coming to Excalibur for dinner the night before his concert . . . and later told Archer of -thinking about the ribs all the way in. , Plus the ribs, Frank's favorite at Excalibur, he enjoys being able to relax and dine in peace when there . . . Sinatra stayed at the Westin Hotel in downtown Detroit's Re- naissance Center . and came with his group to Excalibur where Pat Archer, his friend here, and the employees like hat-check gal Robin Leshman, and so many people who recognized him, discovered the real warmth that oozes with Sinatra's very persona- ble ways. Pat veritably filled Sinat- ra's jet with food for the trip following his concert . . . plus plenty of ribs for Frank's freezer at home in Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs, Calif. Those who know Frank Sinatra truly admire this man . . . Commentators who like to take silly pot shots that make them false heroes, are real bush leaguers . . . Like why didn't he cancel his show til the next night because of the storm. Why didn't they bother to find out that he had a char- ity thing to do the evening after . . . If the tables were reversed and Frank Sinatra had been too ill to appear . . . you can bet your boots he wouldn't have disap- pointed the sellout crowd with a substitute . . . Sick or not they would have seen the guy they came to hear . . . Frank Sinatra. . . and nobody else . . . he's that kind of a guy. Few people know about the many causes championed by Sinatra . . . and Israel has few better big-name friends in show business than he and Elizabeth Taylor. Songstress Cathy Locke and her trio are now appear- ing Tuesday through Saturday at Excalibur .. . Booking agent - songster - . Friday, February 12, 1982 31 philosopher Ricky Dee ( Drapkin) joined her after Sinatra had left . . . sing- ing "Fly Me To The Moon" and "More" . . He was then joined by Pat Archer in a duo of the beautiful Ita- lian song "Mala-Femana." New evening hostess at Excalibur is personable, very accommodating Mau- reen Burns . . . Day hostess Martha Bernie is among the best. GROUP OPENING Monday at Dewey's in Michigan Inn, J. L. Hudson Drive, is Pizazz, a show/ dance band . . . there Mon- day through Saturday . . . till Feb. 27. Will Luke ever find Laura alive? Is _everybody's favo- rite doctor, Steve Hardy, really having an affair? Is the curse of Helena Cas- sadine (alias Elizabeth Taylor) actually coming true? For the answers to these questions, lovers of TV's favorite soap opera, "General Hospital," can watch the show at Dewey's on a big-screen color TV every weekday from 3 to 4 (Continued on Page 32) Food 542-4414 Mon.
