by the mourners them-
selves.
This is generally traced to
the passage in the Book of
Ezekiel (24:17) where the
prophet is ordered not to fol-
low the usual mourning
practices, included in which
the biblical passage states
"eat not the bread of

others."
A number of reasons are
offered for this practice.
First of all, the mourners
who return from the cemet-
ery are sad and dejected.
If neighbors do not pre-
pare and serve them some
food they are likely not to
eat. The Jewish faith or-
dains that after the funeral
a process of coming back to
reality and readjustment
should take place.
Secondly, being obligated
to bring them food, the
neighbors will be
encouraged to join them and
help them out of their feel-
ing of isolation.

The magnificent natural amphitheater lo-cated in
Jerusalem's Valley of Hinnom allows the audience to
combine the hearing of good music with the vista of
the floodlit Old City Walls and Mount Zion. The
amphitheater, located in a part of the valley called
Birket-El-Sultan (Sultan's Pool) is the site of regular
concerts during the summer.
