RECENT VISITORS to
Southfield were Jonathan
Block and son, Israeli citi-
zens. Visiting with Aunt Iva
and Uncle Charles
Hoptman, Jonathan said
that it was a thrill to come
back even for a brief stay
after being away for 13
years. . . he finds life in
the kibutz compatible with
his wife and children even
with the extremely high in-
flation there.
Before returning to Is-
rael, Jonathan and son flew
to California to see his
father.
DAVID LEWIS, ace
copywriter for a major ad-
vertising corporation, is fly-
ing to Hollywood where he
will do his third commercial
for Kellogg's cereal. David
works in the windy city of
Chicago where he got the
idea for a fan club for Rula
Lenska who became famous
for her hair commercials.
On a visit here, Dave did
the Kelly & Co. morning
show and while in Califor-
nia was on with Mery Grif-
fin. David is the son of popu-
lar localites Sol and Elaine

Qualifying rounds begin
Saturday and continue
through Feb. 13 for the city
of Oak Park's annual bas-
ketball foul-shooting con-
test.
To qualify for the city-
finals, a contestant must
finish first, second, or third
in their respective division
at a local neighborhood
gym. The top four finishers
qualify in the men's
women's and girl's di-
visions.
A contestant may at-
tempt to qualify many
times, but may enter only
once at any gym on a given
day. There is a fee.
ONE OF THE MOST
unique invitations to come
our way heralded the Bar
Mitzva of Anthony Craig
Silber, son of Dennis Silber,
entrepreneur-extraordinare
and his lovely wife, Debbie.
The invitation was gold-
etched on glass and came in
a velvet sleeve. Much nahas
sharing for Tony's
grandparents, the Fred Sil-
bers and the Morey Char-
mers.
NO BETTER SOURCE
of information regarding
the Polish dilemma than
from Irving Guttman,
bossman at Irving's Deli.
The experience of Iry and
Rose, whose day-to-day
battle for sheer survival
during the worst of World
War II could fill a book. Irv-
ing says that the current
wave of anti-Semitism is
preposterous in the light of
the fact that there are now
less than 5,000 Jews in the
whole of Poland with more
than half in their late 60s
and 70s and many others in-
termarried. The military
scare-mongers would do
better to look for another
scapegoat.
AL COHEN AND SON
of the Pasadena Kosher
Meat Market, moving to the
New Orleans Shopping
Center where they can ex-
pand their services, say that
Soviet Jews who were lucky
enough to come to the good
old U.S.A. are for the most
part Orthodox and tell him
how much they cherish
their new-found freedom.
The countless good people
who worked hard and long
to get them here clearly ep-
itomize what real "social se-
curity" is all about.
BILL AND DONNA
ORAM enjoyed a Califor-
nia vacation, a gift from the
owners of Statewide Alu-
minum where - Bill is sales
manager. Bill and Donna
were sure to visit Hollywood
. . . Bill got the show-biz
bug when he started mak-
ing TV commercials for
Statewide. Makeup . . .
Lights . . Camera!
