Author, Bnai David's Ex-Rabbi, Hayim Donin Dies

Rabbi Hayim Halevy Do-
nin, who led Cong. Bnai
David for many years, died
Jan. 21 in Jerusalem. He
was 54.
Born in New York, Rabbi
Donin came to Detroit and
Bnai David in 1953 after
serving a congregation in
West Chester, Pa.

Israel Accused by Judge
of Trying to Destabilize Italy

ROME (JTA) — An Ita-
lian judge investigating the
Red Brigade has accused Is-
rael of trying to destabilize
Italy so that the United
States would rely on it more
for security in the Mediter-
ranean area.
According to an interview
published in the daily Il
Messaggerio, Judge Fer-
dinando Imposimato
claimed that up to about
1978, Italian terrorist
groups had been infiltrated
by Israel's secret service.
"The plan was intended to
reduce Italy to a country
‘racked by civil war so that
the U.S. would be forced to
depend more ;OP Israel for
security in the Mediterra-
nean," he told the news-
paper.

Nationally, he was a
member of the executive
committee Of the Rabbinical
Council of America; na-
tional rabbinic cabinet of
the State of Israel Bonds;
and rabbinic cabinet of the

Eva Schocken Glaser Dies,
Led Family Printing Firm

and Martin Buber, until
the Gestapo put an end to
the publishing house in
November 1938. Schoc-
ken, who had been living
in Jerusalem since 1933,
started the concern again
in Tel Aviv.

Mrs. Glaser became the
head of the publishing
house in New York after the
death of her brother, Theo-
dore, in 1975. Her only sur-
viving brother, Gershon
Schocken, is publisher of
Schocken Press, Israel, and
Haaretz.
