No re- sponsible citizen of the 20th Century who cares about human rights and freedom can view with anything but the gravest alarm this great tragedy of Poland. The Solidarity reform movement, a genuine pro- letarian movement for so- cial justice and civil liber- ties, is cruelly repressed by Communist totalitarian might. Balance Is Key to Survival for 80-Year-Old Kfar Tabor By DANIEL GALILI World Zionist Press Service JERUSALEM — Founded in 1901, Kfar Tabor (the village of Tabor) is now celebrating its 80th anniversary. Mount Tabor, a conspicu- ous landmark near the road from Afula to Tiberias, served in biblical times as the boundary between the tribes of Zebulun, Naphtali and Issachar. The prophetess Deborah won a famous victory there and it is praised in the Book of Jeremiah as being out- standing among mountains and comparable to Mount Carmel. Also, Christian tradition has located the transfigura- tion of Jesus on Mount Tabor. Kfar Tabor's land was bought from absentee landlords who consid- ered it useless because of the lack of water in the area. This problem hin- dered the development of the village until 1959, when Mekorot finally brought in sufficient water to guarantee the agricultural future of the settlers. In 1909, the founding con- ference of Hashomer took place in Kfar Tabor. Hashomer was the first in- dependent armed force of the Jews in Eretz Yisrael and the forerunner of the Hagana and of today's Is- rael Defense Forces. Over . SUMMER IS STILL READY IF YOU ARE! Ft. Of the 3.5 million Jews in pre-war Poland, only about 5,000 remain, and most of them are tired, very old people. Yet, incredibly, they are being charged with ev- erything that has gone wrong in Poland. $204 0 0 Tampa - $ 1 8L 50 - Round Trip *Additional Land Arrangements Available on Request Greatways Travel Corporation 26711 Northwestern Hwy., Southfield, Michigan 48034 (313) 352-4873 Mon.-Thurs. 9:00-5:30 p.m., Fri. 9:00-5:00 the years, the village was guarded exclusively by Jewish watchmen, fostering the tradition of Jewish self-defense. The village is today run by members of the third generation, with thriving orchards and fields irri- gated by water from the Sea of Galilee. Many new homesteads have been built in recent years and facilities include fine landscape gar- dening, an industrial zone, opened in 1980, and a sports center inaugurated in 1981. The preservation of a healthy_ balance between agriculture, industry and outside work is one of the main aspirations of Kfar Tabor's present well estab- lished population. Pioneer Women Project Provides Aid for Children NEW YORK -- Pioneer WomenlNaamat has opened the second phase of its $1 million Golda Meir Child Development Fund, named for the late prime minister, who was the organization's national secretary from 1932 to 1934.
