THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Two Marcus Volumes on Jewish Women in U.S. By BEN GALLOB (Copyright 1982, JTA, Inc.) On the premise that the American Jewish woman has been ignored in the standard chronicles of this To My lends & Customers THANK YOU country's Jewry," a famous Jewish historian, Jacob Rader Marcus, has prepared two volumes to fill the gap. One is "The American Jewish Woman, 1654- 1980," a 256-page narra- tive. The other, "The American Jewish Woman: A Documentary History," contains 1,200 pages of let- ters, wills, memoirs and biographical sketches. Dr. Marcus, Distin- guished Service Professor of American Jewish History at the (Reform) Hebrew Union College, describes the two volumes as "an attempt to recapture the past as it ac- tually was." The books introduce the reader to little-known but remarkable Ameri- can Jewish women who are included chronologi- cally and by their fields of achievement. They in- clude: . Cellulose Green Patrols Come Under Fire JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Likud MK clashed with the head of hte Nature Reserves Authority over 'allegations that the so-called "Green Patrols" mistreated the Be- douin population in the Negev and Sinai. MK Dror Seigerman con- tended that harassment by the patrols caused the Be- douins to cooperate with terrorist organizations. Avraham Yaffe, whose Nature Reserves Authority operates the patrols, de- nounced the charges as a "blood libel" against the Bedouins and the patrols. The Green Patrols were formed six years ago to pre- vent the misuse- of state- owned lands. Much of their activity was aimed against Bedouin shepherds who graze their sheep at nature preserves, military training areas or other unauthorized lands. Yaffe said the patrols took action against anybody who violated the law, not just Bedouins. • Framed Pictures, • • Posters, T-Shirts, Etc. • • • • BANQUETS, PARTIES • • WEDDINGS, SHOWERS • MITZVAHS, ETC. • • • • Call • • TYNER In the fight for women's rights, Dr. Marcus, who is also director of the American Jewish Arc- • custom made just for you • laminates, glass, lucite, marble • tables, wall units, credenzas, etc. • delightfully fine work- manship • low prices. . in the home and in the office."
