Austria and Jewish Agency Battle Over Soviet Jews

SPECIALT Y

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Chancellor Bruno Kreisky
of Austria has rejected
charges by the Jewish
Agency of Israel that the
Austrian government vio-
lated the Agency's contract
with the Austrian Red
Cross which granted it ex-
clusive use of a facility in
Vienna which processes
Jews who have left the
Soviet Union.
Leon Dulzin, chairman of
the Jewish Agency and
World Zionist Executives,

Eitan: Syria Taking Steps
Leading to War With Israel

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Chief
of Staff Gen. Rafael Eitan
said in a weekend press
interview that Syria was
taking steps which could
lead to a war with Israel.
He told Yediot Ahronot
that he did not think Syria
wanted a war, but its activi-
ties could lead to warfare.
President Hafez Assad of
Syria endorsed resolutions
by the Arab League's Labor
Organization calling for ac-
tions against American dip-
lomatic missions and inter-
ests in the Mideast and the
use of oil as a political
weapon.

The Arab labor unions
met to discuss possible
responses to Israel's an-
nexation of the Golan
Heights, with resolutions

U.S. in the Mideast.

At the same time, the
Saudi newspaper, Al
Medina, warned the U.S.
and its European allies that
they face "the gravest con-
sequences" if they continue
to block punitive measures
against Israel in the United
Nations Security Council
which is debating a Syrian
resolution for mandatory
sanctions against Israel.
Eitan said that if war
were forced on Israel, Israel
would this time "fight to the
end."

Austria's
Interior
Minister Erwin Lanc

agreement with the
Jewish Agency, that it
had exclusive use of the

with regard to those
Soviet Jews who ex-
pressed a willingness to
go to Israel. The percent-
age of Soviet Jews willing
to go to Israel has de-
creased steadily and pre-

The JCCouncil contacted
representatives of the local
Jewish communities in
areas served by four other
stations. In Ishpeming, a
member of the Jewish com-
munity was contacted con-
cerning station WUPY. He
has informed Council that
he communicated with
WUPY management and
was assured that the station
does not carry the Liberty
Lobby broadcasts. Com-
munications continue with
WDFP - Battle Creek,
WMPL - Hancock and
WNIL - Niles, where mem-
bers of the local Jewish
communities have become
involved at Council's re-
quest.
Communications con-
tinue with stations WDOW

Another station contacted;
WORW - Port Huron School

Hundreds of young
people, mainly yeahiva stu-
dents, entered the Yamit
area Monday night and
began to reassemble green
houses just dismantled by
Jewish Agency workers for
transport to relocation
areas inside Israel. Army
units stood by but made no
attempt to interfere.
Officers said they were
reporting to "higher
authority." They said the
decision to take action
would have to come from the
politicians, not the army.
