NEW YORK (JTA) —
Robert Loup of Denver,
Colo., has been elected na-
tional chairman of the
United Jewish Appeal.
Loup, a UJA national vice
chairman since 1977, will
officially succeed Herschel
Blumberg of Washington,
D.C., in the agency's top
fund raising post on May 20,
1982, at the UJA Campaign
Leadership Conference in
Washington launching the
1983 campaign which Loup
will lead.
Blumberg led UJA's 1981
campaign — projected to
raise more than $530 mil-
lion — and is currently
heading the 1982 national
effort, under way since last
May with a goal of $660 mil-
lion in the regular cam-
paign and substantially in-
creased giving to Project
Renewal.

paign planning which he
began several months
ago as chairman of the
UJA national planning
committee.
In addition to his respon-
sibilities as chairman of
UJA's 1983 Campaign
planning committee, Loup
heads the committee on
regionalization which has
played a key role in the
agency's efforts in recent
years to improve the deliv-
ery of campaign services
and programs to com-
munities through its eight
regional offices.
He has long been active in
his home community in De-
nver, and was chairman of
its 1974 Campaign which
raised more than $7 million,
the most successful to date
in the community's history.
He was president of the
Allied Jewish Federation of
Denver in 1975-1976, and is
an honorary life president
and a member of the federa-
tion's executive committee.
His wife Charlene, is 1982
general campaign chair-
man of the Denver federa-
tion.
Loup also served as
president and a member
of the board of Jewish
Community Center in
Denver, and was a
member of the board of
that city's Beth Israel
Hospital for the Aging.
In 1975, he was honored
"for his outstanding leader-
ship" with the Human Rela-
tions Citation from the De-
nver Chapter of the Ameri-
can Jewish Committee. He
is also active in the Council
of Jewish Federations and is
chairman of UJAJCJF Task
Force.
Following a 1976 trip to
the Soviet Union, Loup and
his wife founded the Com-
mission on International
Jewish Affairs under the
auspices of the Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai
Brith.
He is a member of the
board of an Israeli solar
energy company, Ameri-
can Heliothermal Corp.
The UJA national chair-
man - designate is a
graduate of the University
of Colorado and served in
the U.S. Air Force.
