Sasson was interviewed on the Voice of Israel Radio Monday shortly after he handed Mubarak a letter from Premier Menahem Begin affirming that Israel would complete its evacua- tion of Sinai by next April 26, the deadline set in the Egyptian-Israeli peace tre- aty. The letter also explained Israel's reasons for imposing its law on the Golan Heights, Sasson said. He said his one-hour meeting with the Egyptian president was held "in a very friendly atmosphere." Mubarak is scheduled to visit Israel in February, but no date has been set yet. In Rome, Foreign Minis- ter Kamal Hassan Ali of Egypt has pledged that his country will pursue its peace process with Israel even if it takes years and will not become involved in war regardless of what other Arab states did. In an interview published in the daily La Republica, the Egyptian diplomat criticized Syria for refusing to discuss anything with Is- rael, indicated that . Egypt supported only the "positive elements" in the Saudi Ara- bian peace plan and expres- sed confidence that the pre- sent dispute between Israel and the U.S. over Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights does not jeopardize the Camp David accords. Israel's action on the Golan and any resulting armed conflict between Israel and Syria certainly would not involve Egypt, Hassan Ali declared. Illness Delays Deportation of Accused Ex-Nazi in U.S. WASHINGTON (JTA) — The Justice Department ag- reed to withhold deporta- tion proceedings for the time being against Otto Al- brecht von Bolschwing, a former Gestapo official in- volved with Adolf Eichmann in the liquida- tion of Jews, who voluntar- ily gave up his U.S. citizen- ship, acquired illegally in 1959 by concealing his Ges- tapo connection. Allan Ryan who heads the Justice Department's Office of Special Investiga- tions (OSI), said deportation was waived for the present because von Bolschwing, 72, has a health problem which impairs his ability to assist in his defense. The agreement, filed in U.S. District Court in Sac- ramento, Calif., must be ap- proved by the court to be fi- nal. Von Bolschwing was one of 11 former Nazis re- siding in the U.S. against whom denaturalization proceedings were un- derway before he relin- quished citizenship. In doing so, he admitted only to membership in the Nazi Party. But his Gestapo associations have been documented in "Nazi War Criminals in America: Facts . . . Action" by Charles Allen Jr. and Rochelle Saidel-Wolk, pub- lished this year.
