Psychoanalyst Prof. Fraiberg,
Helped Troubled Children

NEW YORK — Selma
Fraiberg, a professor of
child psychoanalysis at the
University of California in
San Francisco and a clini-
cian who devoted her career
to helping troubled chil-
dren, died Dec. 19 at age 63.
A native Detroiter, Prof.
Fraiberg was graduated in
1940 from Wayne State
University with a master's
degree in social work. She
completed her psychoanaly-
li raining at the Detroit
choanalytic Institute.
Prof. Fraiberg was pro-
fessor emeritus of child
psychoanalysis at the Uni-
versity of Michigan Medical
School, where he had taught
from 1963 to 1979. She also
was the director of the Child
Development Project in
Washtenaw County.

Toronto Star
President Dies

TORONTO — Martin
Goodman, president of To-
ronto StarNewspapers Ltd.,
died Dec. 20 at age 46.
A former president of the
Canadian Press news
agency cooperative, Mr.
Goodman was recently
named to the Order of
Canada, the country's high-
est honor, "for his work in
journalism and for national
unity."
Formerly a reporter for
the Star, Mr. Goodman was
a foreign correspondent,
city editor and managing
editor. He also was a direc-
tor of the Torstar Corp, the
parent communications
holding company.

Margaret Berman, past
president of the Israel
Chapter of Bnai Brith, died
Dec. 14 in Los Angeles,
Calif. She was 57.
A former Detroiter, Mrs.
Berman is survived by a
son, Michael of Phoenix,
Ariz.; a daughter, Sharon of
Cleveland, Ohio; three
brothers, Mickey Strom of
Phoenix, Harold Strom of
Southfield and David Strom
of San Diego, Calif.; two sis-
ters, Gertrude Kosowski of
Phoenix and Esther Pollack
of San Diego; and one
grandchild. Interinent
Phoenix.

Sabbath Ban
to Hurt Tourism

JERUSALEM — The Is-
rael tourism industry could
suffer an annual loss of $75
PA on if the government
n El Al flights on the

Al to lose at least $30 mil-
lion annually and turn the
carrier into a 240-day a year
airline.
Most seriously affected

Her work was said to
have paralleled that of
Anna Freud; both were
interested in young blind
people. Prof. Fraiberg
wrote several books on
the development and
guidance of children.
She is survived by her
husband, Louis; a daughter,
Lisa of San Francisco; her
mother, Dorella Horwitz of
Detroit; a brother, Dr. Nor-
man Horwitz of Detroit; and
a sister, Malva Dobrikin of
Chicago, Ill.

Dorothy Levine,
Bnai Zion Head

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Dorothy Levine, national
vice president of Bnai Zion
and president of Bnai Zion's
Women's League, died Dec.
14 at age 78.
Mrs. Levine, who was the
wife of the late Dr. Harris
Levine, former president of
the Jewish National Fund
of America, also served as
JNF chairman for Bnai Zion
and was a long-time
member of the boards of the
JNF, the American Zionist
Federation and the
America-Israel Friendship
League.
A frequent visitor to Is-
rael since 1948, she
attended sessions of the
World Zionist Congress and
of the WZO Actions Com-
mittee, representing the
World Confederation of
United Zionists.

Eban Kin Dies

LONDON — Dr. Isaac
Eban, adoptive father of
former Israeli Deputy
Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister Abba Eban, is
dead at age 91.
