JNF Green Belt

JERUSALEM — In the
near future, a green belt of
trees will surround Israel's
capital. Afforestation ac-
tivities are taking place on
all sides of the city, involv-
ing tens of thousands of
trees.Recently, the total of
trees planted by the Jewish
National Fund has reached
8,000 dunams (2,000 acres).
Emphasis has been
placed on planting trees
near the new suburbs north
of the city, especially Ramot
and Neve Ya'akov. Affores-
tation is also continuing
near suburban Patt and
Gilo, as well as in the Etzion
Bloc and Sha'ar Hagay.
Eventually even the east-
ern side of Jerusalem,
which borders the desert,
will be hooked into Israel's
longest green belt.
