She was the first woman to run for the U.S. Senate from New York and for mayor of New York City. Born in the Bronx, Mrs. Abzug earned a bachelor's degree in political science at Hunter College. Iden- tified since her youth with Zionist causes, she attended the Jewish Theological Seminary and was a Hebrew teacher. She was graduated from Colum- bia University Law School, where she was an editor of the Law Review. As a founder of the Na- tional Women's Political Caucus, Mrs. Abzug wrote the first law banning dis- crimination against women in obtaining credit, loans and mortgages, and fought for Title IX Equal Opportu- nity in Education Laws. JNF Women Realize $80,000 at Donor Tea Fund Raiser More than $80,000 was raised at the 52nd annual donor tea of the Women of Jewish National Fund, an- nounced President Shirley Kraft and Betty Silverman, fund-raising chairman.
