THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

CELEBRATE
New Years Eve

(

(Continued from Page 26)
p.m. with the fine Thom
Sharp, favorite of so many
entertainers, appearing
through this Saturday
night at Comedy Castle.
What Yassoo didn't do at
the Woodward near 14 Mile
location, Maximilian's is
doing a lot of . . . satisfying
the people enough to bring
them back . . . This is the
prime asset of a winner op-
eration.
SEEMED LIKE old
times . . . being at Baker's
Keyboard Lounge on Liver-
nois recently . . . There's no
cover or minimum anymore
at the nation-famous jazz
spot that opened its doors
back in 1934 . . . as owner
Clarence Baker goes with a
new breed of talent that
many folks may not know
but has people lined up out-
side.

The Best of Everything

Clarence sold Baker's
years ago to the late Soly
Hartstein . . . and bought it
back when Soly retired
seven years ago.
WORD IS THAT Michi-
gan Inn has been sold .. .
with buyer being same
company that purchased
Sheraton-Southfield . . .
Servico, owned by Arthur
Meyers in Florida . . . If
true, this makes three local
Servico spots . . . including
the Troy Hilton.
YOU CAN'T MISS IT
. yellow lights all around
and a big outside sign that
says "Uptown Charley's"
. The former Howard
Johnson's at 14 Mile and
Stephenson was completely
gutted by Chuck Muer .
and the meeting rooms of
before became part of the
huge restaurant . . . with
280 seating for dinner .. .
310 including a lounge.
Naturally, as at all open-
ings, Executive Chef Larry
Pagliara and Chuck were on
the spot making sure every-
thing went right.
As in all Chuck Muer
taverns (Northville Char-
ley's, Bloomfield Charley's,
Eastown Charley's), pic-
tures of the local high
school athletic teams and
graduation classes adorn
the walls . . . Madison
Heights High is well repre-
sented at Uptown Charley's
. . . but so many wondered
what the small Statue of
Liberty was doing there.
Our waiter, Jim Hus-
ton, was a heck of a nice
young man.... smiling,
very pleasant, courteous
and efficient ... If you're
out that way and want a
delicious dessert, try the
Hot Apple Mountain ...
It's like apple pie ala
mode-in a sundae glass.
Menu items range from
burgers, sandwiches and
salads to full dinners like
barbecued ribs, pizza,
homemade linguini with
red and white clam and
Provencale sauces, teriyaki
chicken and a 12 oz. New
York strip steak . . . Among
the typical Chuck Muer sea-
food items are a limited
selection of "daily catch"
fresh fish, crab legs and
scallops . . . Daily specials
such as flounder with crab-
meat stuffing and tender-
loin teriyaki with scallops
are also offered.
Kent Cassady, general
manager of the restaurant,
was formerly general man-
ager of Northville Char-
ley's.
LOTS OF CHANGES at
Roman Terrace on Orchard
Lake Rd. at 12 Mile . . . with
remodeled front and inter-
ior, newly designed menu
(same prices), cocktail hour
Monday-Friday, fashion
show Tuesday 12:30-2 by
Enchante, senior citizens 20
percent off total check Mon-
days, 11 to 4.
Paul Paster is at the
piano Monday 4:30-11 .. .
and Tom Altenburg
Tuesday-Saturday 8 to 1.
