Jewish Monuments Group Publishes Guide to Findings

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Is-
raeli Chief of Staff Gen.
Rafael Eitan recently vis-
ited the U.S. and observed
units of the Rapid Deploy-
ment Force which is de-
signed to protect the Middle
East and other areas.
Gen. Eitan said he was
impressed by the U.S. units.

He also met with former
Israelis now living in the
U.S. who expressed interest
in continuing to serve in the
Israeli reserve forces and
return to Israel periodically
for active duty training.
Some volunteered to travel
to Israel at their own ex-
pense.

survey cannot be over-
stated," an ISJM spokes-
man declared in a letter to
the Jewish Telegraphic
Agency. "Every day,
throughout the world,
synagogues and cemeteries
are being ravaged by neg-
lect as well as by urban
growth and decay."
The spokesman added
that "valuable private
collections of photo-
graphs, documents, folk
art and memorabilia,
which are often the sole
surviving evidence of
Jewish life in particular
communities, are tragi-
cally discarded when left
to heirs who see no pur-
pose in saving them."
Also the ISJM wanted to
receive and preserve photo-
graphic and written docu-
ments of art and architec-
ture and also wanted to
have scholars to notify the
ISJM of completed and con-
tinuing research projects so
that the ISJM could act as
