WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Philip Habib, President
Reagan's special envoy to
the Middle East, said he
found, on his latest trip to
the region, that the cease-
fire he helped establish
across the Lebanon - Israel
border last'July has "cooled
the situation" in Lebanon:
Habib spoke to reporters
last Friday after reporting
to President Reagan on his
latest mission to the
Mideast in which he visited
Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Jor-
dan and Saudi Arabia.
The 61-year-old retired
diplomat did not say
whether he would be re-
turning to the area soon but
only declared that he was at
the President's "disposal."
Habib did not deal with
any specifics such as the
missiles Syria placed in
Lebanon last spring. The
envoy was originally sent
to the Mideast last May to
seek the removal of those
missiles whose removal
Israel is still demanding.
However, Habib told re-
porters he found that "all
the parties" in the Lebanese
situation were satisfied
with the cease-fire, despite

a political or military up-
heaval that would create
problems in the region."

House has announced that
Crown Prince Fand of Saudi
Arabia will make an official
visit to Washington Jan.

Meanwhile, a Knesset
panel was told last week
that there is an "explo-
sive situation in southern
Lebanon."
The report, presented to
the Foreign Affairs and Se-
curity Committee's Sub-
committee on Lebanon,
drew a request from the
subcommittee's chairman,
Labor MK Danny Rosolio,
that the U.S. be asked to ex-
plain how it intends to im-
plement its commitment to
defuse the situation in
Lebanon.
Rosolio noted that the es-
calation of dangerous situa-
tions was not uncommon in
the region. Rosolio told re-
porters after the subcom-
mittee meeting that "There
is an extremely high ac-
cumulation of weaponry by
the Palestine Liberation
Organization" in Lebanon.
"If we add to this fact that
there are cease-fire viola-
tions, there can be an explo-
sive situation."
An Irish soldier of the
United Nations Interim
Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)
was wounded recently while
on patrol. Shots were fired
at another Irish soldier in a
different sector of the front.
UNIFIL troops have bben

tian militia in south Leba- --
non.

London correspondent for
Haaretz reported that Israel
did not invite Prince
Charles and Lady Diana for
an official visit during their
honeymoon because it was
clear that the British
Foreign Office would have
rejected the invitation.
According to British
documents, during the 28
months the Conservative
government has been in
office, only three British
ministers have visited Is-
rael while 17 have made 37
trips to the Arab world.
